Manuals for the old V7 Sport
« on: February 22, 2024, 05:21:12 PM »
I find myself the owner of a '73, vin 32111, and wd like to know if there are any of the Clymers, Chilton's, or Haynes books that are applicable?
I have the factory manual, and the parts list already.
I also have the good fortune to be buying the bike from the fellow who uncrated it here in Sacramento, purchased from Bryant Bros out on Stockton Blvd.
He bought a Ducati and his pal Sam Dubose got the V7 Sport, which now has just over 12K miles on it.
Many more questions to come, I'm sure-

I don't know if this link will work, but it's supposed to be a photo of the '74 Commando that I've nursed back to health during the past 20-odd years...

When you say you  have the factory manual, do you mean the small "Owners" manual or the larger "Work Shop Manual".  The non-factory books are rather worthless. The only one you need is the factory "Work Shop Manual". This web site is a treasure trove of knowledge. Does your V7 have drum or twin disc front wheel?     Horst.

Guzziology for sure and most everything else is available on This Old Tractor, which is the most amazing warehouse of Guzzi information in the world.

32114 here!  Wow, they rolled down the line close together!!

Welcome to the club. I went from rebuilding a Commando to a Guzzi also.  I was worried about working on an Italian bike but it was a wonderful surprise how well built they are and how easy to work on.  The support on this forum is stellar. I’m currently building a ‘73 as well.  Right side shift no. 13229.  Please many pictures.

Dave Swanson, thanks for mentioning Guzziology. The earlier copies are the ones you want for the 1970's bikes. I have two copies I bought personally from Dave Richardson, they are invaluable. My V7 Sport was built Dec '73. #34035. I bought it new March '74.

The bike is not home at my place yet, but I have a few photos (and a wheel).
And yes, I have the factory workshop manual, which is designed for a real mechanic, rather than the "assembler" that I am.
I (will soon) have both disc and drum setup.  Steve (not Sam) Dubose put the double disc setup on at some point, but kept the Cross-rimmed Borrani wheel, the shock lowers, and the fender stays for the drum version.

I wd be very pleased to find (and pay for) an early edition of Guzziology.
I borrowed one from my neighbor in days past and returned it, but now it's time to have my own copy.

Go to Google, type in Guzziology. Original, photocopies, and downloads are available. Some reasonable, some exorbitant.

Oh my that's a real gem!  Having the correct for the bike  brake setup is priceless.  I'm happy all the parts come with the bike.  That is a score of a lifetime.

BTW.  Commando owner here also.

Welcome to the V7 Sport fold.  My bike is later, vin 32341.  I survived decades with “only” a reprint of the original V7 Sport factory parts book & factory service manual and a 1977 Haynes Moto Guzzi V-twins manual.   I’ve had a copy Guzziology for a couple of years- great content but kinda ADD in terms of structure, even for me.  But it’s about overall theory and knowledge, not a service manual.

Glad to hear the 4 shoe drum brake parts are included.  I hope you consider using it.  To me, it’s a significant part of the package that makes the V7 Sport what it is - a bridge between old and new technology, with some of each composing the experience.  That big brake can work extremely well and keeps the bike visceral & analog vs the ubiquitously modern two-finger braking experience of every MG sport bike that followed it.
