04 EVT Gas Mileage
« on: June 22, 2024, 07:27:02 AM »
OK, now that I finally have a long (>1kmi) trip on the very comfily seated EVT, what's the mileage you long distance touring types get on the Cali 1100s?
With me(220lb) + gear (FFH, AS touring jacket, revit armoured ventilated pants, daytona boots, so another 25 lb at least), full stock hardcases and a bag on the luggage rack and other junk strapped to the seat, so another 75-100lb.
The longer, more steady throttle segments like US441 for 100 or so miles were running about 4kRPM and 75-85MPH in warm-very hot weather.
Best I could figure out was 34-38 MPG, using 93 or better octane, and 34/42 psi front and rear tyres.

I had a carbureted California 1100, and the fuel injected 2004 EV. I tweaked and tweaked the carbs, and the fuel injection. When you have a large windshield and luggage sticking out in the wind, at those speeds, you'll likely not see 40 MPG. But once on a slow ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway, I got a touch over 50 MPG. That doesn't happen often though.

On my 03 EV before I put the sidecar on I averaged between 35 to 39 mpg.  I once got 45 mpg but that was at about 45 mph for the full tank of gas.

When i was commuting with an about 40 mile round trip per day, my EVT got right at 40mpg. The route was mainly freeway at about 70mph. In the city about 35mpg, all freeway was about 45mpg.

I would get gas every 3 days/120 miles +/- 2 or 3 miles. Always right about 3 gallons. Rarely, but sometimes the low fuel light would come on at about 115 miles, still only took right about at 3 gallons +/- a few tenths of a gallon.

About the same for my '72 Eldo.

If I ran the speed limit I could squeeze out 50 mpg on my 99 Bassa . With a heavy sidecar mounted ,about 35 mpg so I quit paying attention to the speed limit

Have you got to check it on a road trip?

Yes.  I've had it on several 200 mile days, and it's always about the same.  Right at 40mpg.

Most recently, on Memorial Day Weekend, Michael D and I rode a 250 mile loop here in The Ozarks.  50mph-70mph twisty two lane highways.  Both fill ups computed at 40mpg.
