The Griso is kind of like the Centauro. Both unique. I never got to ride either one of those models. The Centauros aren't bringing much money right now

Sadly or happily true. I always felt the Griso was a Centauro with a little less craziness.

My thoughts are that the Griso is a known quantity and the V100 is still uncharted territory.  What happens if you end up liking the Griso more than the V100?  If you don't have to part with a bike to finance the V100, then wait until you have it firmly embedded in the stable and then decide what to part with.

After all of these great responses I should provide the current status. The Griso didn't go anywhere.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on both bikes.

Both bikes are stellar Moto Guzzis.  The Griso feels more raw and unrefined, as it should, which isn't a bad thing.  As Cam stated "the Griso is the 69 Camaro of motorcycles", which is an good comparison.

The slow speed handling of the V100 is superior to the Griso.  It's no secret that lower speed handling isn't the Griso's best trait.

Of course the V100 is much more in the sport touring camp than the Griso.  You can tour on a Griso, and some do, but I think everyone would be happier touring on a V100.  The overall refinement of the V100 is very noticeable as is should for a clean sheet motorcycle design that is around 15 years newer.

To sum up. The Griso is a very entertaining motorcycle, and I do love it, but the V100S is the best motorcycle I have ever ridden.

Leave the V100 at the shop.
Sell everything else and just keep the V11 Sport. All the money you get for the bikes, you can ship your V11 over here to Oz and we can go for a lap around…. :thumb:

I completely agree with your assessment Dave. Glad you held on to the Griso ,two very different animals.  The v100 is the first bike I've ridden with so much performance on tap but does not beckon you constantly to use it. It is just so damn good at normal road speeds everywhere that I never feel the need to push it. Unlike the Tuono that just constantly begs to be wound up beyond legal speeds . It really strikes a perfect balance.  Glad your enjoying it.  :thumb:

A good riding buddy and I have discussed getting a Tuono for quite a few years.  Many YouTube videos have been watched.  The sound of the Tuono with a proper exhaust system is one of the very best.  I also know that it is the kind of bike that would be hard to ride at only a spirited pace.  It would always be begging to be ridden as it should which is giving it a good thrashing.  This would not be healthy on many levels.  The V100 is the thinking man's Tuono.

Hi, Dave.  I'm glad your new V100 is so impressive for you.  Looking at your ownership list, is the V100 your first venture with what is supposed to be latest, cutting edge motorcycle technology ?

I hope your fondness for the new Guzzi endures.

By the way, I'm not familiar with slow speed handling issues regarding the Griso. With the final iteration SE, I'm running Michelin Pilot Powers at 38/42 psi and it acquits itself quite well at all speeds.

did a GRiSO search this am for other reasons, but it returned this thread and I'm curious, @dave swanson, as to your current thought process on these bikes. Do they remain distinct enough that the GRiSO is safe from the market?

Curious what your riding heirarchy looks like. Cannot imagine the grueling selection process you willingly subject yourself to on a daily basis.

I sold my 17 Griso a couple of years ago, and sure miss it. I dont miss riding it as much as I miss admiring it in my garage. It truly was a beautiful machine. I wonder why the griso does not inspire confidence at low speeds?  I could never put a finger on the reason,,but I was always afraid of dropping it at low speeds, and almost did a couple of times.

What a conundrum!

The Griso is such a unique and desirable classic I couldn't imagine letting it go unless it was to a good friend who would let allow you visitation rights every other weekend.
