Dash Diagnostic Port Location Norge, Stelvio, Sport?
« on: November 18, 2024, 02:23:06 PM »
I have searched the world over. Even looked in the service manuals. I can not find the location for the CanBus dash connector on the bikes listed in the title. I know where it is on a V7 and V9. Sorta tucked behind the battery and airbox.

I'm not talking about the one that Guzzidiag connects to. They are easy to find.

I thought the Norge and the others it was around the steering head or maybe under the tank??

Help please! Thank you!!

On the Norge, it's under the seat actually, not near the head/tank area.  There are 2 plugs that look very similar in fact, but only 1 connects to Guzzidiag.  Mine is near the "cross bar" that divides the rear most section from the area behind the battery...

9 years and 4 CARC bikes, and I didn't know there was a separate connector direct to the dash without PADS. Well versed with GD and the Menu in the dash, but not to connect directly. How do you plan to do so unless you have PADS?

So...There should be another plug next to the normal one that Guzzidiag connects to? I seem to remember a white plug on a Sport?

Here is the connectors that would hook up to a V7 or V9. The MGMP connector is usually found behind the airbox. It uses a "terminator" on the end of it. Hence in the pic below, you would plug one end into the MGMP cable and then the "terminator" into the other end of the cable.

Anyone got a pic of the ones in question. If it is the white connector, I don;t have the right cable.

Thank you,
Tom

I can access the V7/9 dash with ODBStar IScan for Guzzi. The cables in the pic connects the devise to the MGMP cable on the bike. Yes it can reset the service icon. Search on Wildgoose for a post about the device.

Since you have experience with the CARC models. This is not meant to be a smartalec question.......How dose PADS connect to the dash? What connector is used and where is it? Pic would be great!

Tom,   i think it is white, used for dash updates. I used it on a update for Aprillia dash with PADS. Guzzi never had an update. It goes to dash and your code appears on dash at battery change, 1st key on. That is the map in the dash. No access other than PADS, UNLESS you are CARMO in EU.

Edit: In the Norge 2V manual in Power Supply, Synchronization  a pic of the white plug behind the fuse box as the guy shows plug for diagnostic plug in his hand, strait off his middle finger next to red tool kit.

Awhile back there was a thread someone here researched this same thing and found a firm in Canada with software to get in dash, price was $1200. If you do a search it's most likely in archives.

guzzisteve, I will look into the manual for that pic. So if this is true that is the connector, I have seen it on a few models. I do not have an adapter for it. Though, I do think that the OBDStar MAY be able to talk to the bike if I had one. Again, it does the V7/9.

EDIT:.........I just looked at the diagnostic capability of the OBDStar on their list. For the Norge it only lists the ECU for the engine. For the 1400 series it lists the Engine and Instrument Panel. Same for V7/9, which I can access both computers. Looks like I'm not going to use the OBDStar on the models I had also hoped to do. Aw Crud!!!!

Thank you ALL very much,
Tom

I wanted to thank you all again for the help!!!

I was sure that the ODBStar was capable of the dash on the Norge and the like. So I just needed to find the connector. I re-read the list and, again, only the engine, not the instrument panel.

When I have seen the white connector next to the one that Guzzidiag connects to, I was thinking that had to be it. But, it didn't look like a V7/9 connector.

Dang, I was hoping it would connect to the dash.

Again....Thank you very much for the help!!! And if I come across a ....cheap...way to connect, I'll let you know.

Tom,
The carc bikes don't do CAN bus diagnostics to the dash.
There was a connector, a white Molex one, but there was never an update, and Pads does not have a menu option for the dash on those bikes. The old Axeone could do it but I've never seen that working, also, I think all Axones are dead now, because the mainboard used a watch battery for the bios, like pc's do. When the battery is replaced the unlock code is gone. Don't think you get a new code now. Nothing in the dash is worth diagnosing.

I needed to check for errors that would be listed in the dash. Had a service light due to a faulty oil pressure sender. Needed to check and clear it. I just had to use the mode button and the service code to get in and read everything on the dash screen. New sender and all fixed.
