Well, are they the same??

Depends on the model year.

Currently and since the V7 also became an 850 (EUIV/V), then yes.

Before that not only no, the V9 motor was better then in my opinion, perhaps better than the later revisions.

I’m with Kev M on this. My 2 V9’s, a Roamer and a Bobber, 2016 and 2017 respectively had the sweetest Guzzzi motors imho.
I too was lusting after a V9 Bobber Sport but no way to set up a good pillion mount unfortunately.

The original V9 motor had a low rpm torque range that was sweet. It would still rev but the torque range was lovely and kiced in early.
I had a V7850 and it didn't have the seat of the pants feel that the orginal models did in this regard.

Yeah this. To me it felt really similar to a Guzzi big block. Maybe not CARC strong but at least Cali strong.

My V7III seat of the pants feels stronger off the line than my V85TT.

I would have opted for the V9 motor in my V85 if there was that choice available. If my ‘85 motor blew up, I’d put a V9 motor in.

At least with me, I'm not just talking about off the line. It's how and where the power is made in the RPM range and how that feels going down the road.

My 19 Bobber Sport with Zard pipes and a Beetle MAP ran so good. I wish I had kept it instead of trading it in for the V85.

I really wanted a Roamer as a second backup bike but couldn't find one anywhere near me. The closest one was over 600 miles away. I finally "settled" for a V7lll Special. A used one showed up fairly close a couple of weeks later, go figure. I am happy with the V7 though which will be my last motorcycle as I age out. It and my Mandello for now and probably a Vespa if I make it that far. :thumb:

I bought a leftover 2017 V9 Bobber new in 2019 as my more than likely last bike. I have been very satisfied with it. Mostly due to it having the same feel as the old 850 big blocks I had back in the day. It is just what I was looking for my ride into the sunset. :thumb:
