Mag wheel options
« on: February 10, 2025, 07:06:29 AM »
have a round barrel cafe im building and would love mag wheels as opposed to spoke.  The only options i see are the lemans/sp stock ones or lesters (which i have, but are heavier than the spoke wheels). Anyone know of any other options?  can the lesters be made lighter with some milling and drilling?
Thx
Allen

When I switched my '77 T3 from spoked stock wheels with tubes and a rim strip to tubeless Lester wheels I gained less than 3 ounces per wheel. Lesters balanced better so I saved a bit of that 3 ounce with reduced balance weight. I don't see a lot of fat on Lesters that I'd be comfortable removing.

Going to Lester wheels should make a big impact on stability, particularly when cornering fast on bumpy roads. The difference on my KZ650 was staggering, despite the stock wire wheels being true and correctly tightened.

There are two types of alloy wheels used by Guzzi in the '70s and '80s - the "bent spoke" and "straight spoke". I don't think one is any lighter than the other though.

I just bought a T3 that has Lester wheels on it.

If you are patient and scour the internet, you may get lucky and find a set of Astralites.

Borrani wheels are pretty nice, IMO.
