Wixom Saddlebag Hinge Part Number...Somewhat Solved
« on: March 11, 2025, 01:31:02 PM »
Does anyone know what P/N is for the Wixom saddlebag hinge at for instance McMaster Carr?

I have searched up the latch, but can't find the hinge.

Thank you,
Tom

I've never found a match, or was even close really.

I did not see any at McMaster, was hoping for a P/N. Thanks for the reply, did you ever find a substitute?  I'll have to do some searching.

You have found the latch?!
I've been looking forever (15+ years).

Where can I find two?
Thanks.

Not an exact replica, but will work per Charlie: McMaster Carr 1863A23

There is a set of OK ones on the bay of fleas for about $50

I found some marine stainless hinges that may work. One style was flat the other offset a bit. Will see what happens when they show up. They may need the holes relocated, I'm not worried about it being original, just functional.

Thought you meant original. I've seen the substitutes and none have the simple smooth line of the one piece original. Matter of fact I have a pair of the McMaster Carr 1863A23 latches. Just couldn't abide by the appearance.

Checked out the pair on eBay. They are in worse shape than mine.

Well I may have found the correct hinges with Google images search.

The name they go by is Art Deco style hinges or Hoosier style hinges.

This is the antique one listed as "Vintage Cabinet Art Deco Chrome Hinge":

This is a new one listed as "3/8" Off Set Sellers Cabinet Hinge NICKEL Hoosier Wilson Solid Brass":

The antique one is made 2 ways, flat and 3/8 offset. The offset on THE SHORT END is what was originally used. There are new hinges made that look like the antique ones, but the offset is on the long end.

Also, if you look closely at the new and old pic, you will note that the long end of the hinge is mounted under the hinge pin on the new one and level with the hinge pin on the antique. The originals that I have are under the pin. I do not know if it will make a difference, maybe the level to the pin may work better?
