Sorry didn't mean to be "abrupt" but your childish reply is in the same ballpark. The OP is pretty clear. Just needs help making a decision that has apparently already been made. I'm just pointing it out using some famous quotes. Sorry if I offended.

But in any case he is on point, the comments weren’t derisive, just his (correct) personal insight.
Why is it not ok for him to make his observation, but it is ok for you to make yours ?

Because I’m the OP and it was insulting to me. I started this thread because I had a valid concern.  Just because this concern isn’t valid to someone else doesn’t mean they should describe me as “having a fear of issues and unwilling to take control”.  WTF?

Well that is the answer, don’t be overly concerned about what might happen, just dive in and if something happens then deal with it then.
I didn’t notice where he criticised your question/s.
Really, your response was more pointed than his. I’m sure you have certain skills that you have gotten off your ass to go and acquire..
Why do you say you are completely inept mechanically ? No one is naturally inept at anything (unless they have a learning difficulty), it seems you do not, so why not work towards fixing the cause of the problem and not the effect.

I started this thread because I had a valid concern.   

You should do your best to overcome those concerns and make the move with your motorcycle.

Most of us who have been around these bikes for decades do not, and have not lived near any authorized dealers.

For me, for most of my three decades of ownership experience, it's been 120 miles to the nearest dealer.

The closest dealer is probably 1.5-2 hours away.  I could rent a trailer but I don’t want to install a hitch on my car just for the possibility of having to trailer my bike someplace.

You can rent a pickup with hitch for pretty cheap from Lowes/Home Depot/U-Haul.

Heck, you could rent a box truck from U-Haul for cheap and put the bike in the back
