In this rare instance I was at and possibly below the speed limit. But a bear gives about as much as a Humvee or a concrete wall!
With the Helite, you just pop in a new CO2 cartridge and go about your business.
Steve, the teather is a PITA to remember. to attach and de-attach. If I were buying a new one today I think I would go for the electronic version of Helite or Alpine Stars tech air 5. Problem is you do have to recharge them and turn them on. Not so sure I like the trade off.
Sorry if I sound like a Helite ad, but It doesn't matter how much training or experience you have. Sometimes S... Happens!

So there is no mandatory 'manufacturer' based reset if deployed? The bags deflate to normal and just replace the cartridge? What do the cartridges cost? I dont know if it is age, or all the metal in my body, but I am far more concerned these days, and the cost of accidental deployment is what was mostly holding me back.

With the Helite (like Bill wears) you just change the CO2 cartridge.  They run around 50 bucks IIRC.  They are 100CC or so-much larger than a standard.
Assuming one hasn't punctured the vest, swap out spent for new and on your way.  About 10 min.
Almost impossible to activate it by forgetting to unclip.  It takes quite a pull to activate.  When we had demos at our riding club I really had to use some body english and a very hard tug to get the vest to go off.
