Motor cycle friendly motels in northern NM and southern CO.

Looking at a doing a three day ride this weekend through the Taos area and maybe up north as far as Gunnison. Anyone here recommend what one would consider motor cycle friendly motels. I just have some general routes in mind so can be quite flexible.

Never had any grief at any motel that I can remember. Its just show me the money these days. Bring lots.

I prefer the walk directly into you room. Some motels I have been at always had old towels available if needing something to wipe dew or whatever off the bike. Some hotels that didn't have direct walkin rooms would offer parking the bike under the entrance awning, etc. I guess am looking for that sort of thing.

I’m a Hilton Honors points whore from my days traveling for the government.  I can count on one hand the hiltons that didn’t let me park under the portico out front.  100+ stays.  I waited out a freakin hurricane underneath one on the way to the Ohio rally a few years ago.  For me, that’s a moto friendly hotel.  Dry bike in the morning.

Last time I lodged in Gunnison I stayed at the Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham there and I would stay there again. It was reasonably priced and nothing to write home about, but also nothing to leave a bad review over. Just a place to shower and sleep. There were a few other motorcycles staying there and a spot next to the awning that I parked at. If you look it up on Google Street View you will see some motorcycles parked there just the same.

I like Gunnison a lot but will mention there are very apparent signs of poverty there, more so than some other areas of CO. Be sure to lock things down or bring them into the room overnight, which is a good practice anyway.

I have rarely had an issue with motel and motorcycles.  I usually tell the clerk that I'm on a bike, and I'm worried about it be stolen, or somebody accidentally backing over it.  90% of the time the clerk will permit me to park it under the overhang, or tell me a good safe spot for it.  And they will keep an eye on it.

Last time we rode to Taos, stayed at El Pueblo Lodge.  It's an awesome retro motel that's been in a few movies.  National Lampoon's Family Vacation being one.  Walking distance to the plaza.   https://elpueblolodge.com/

Over the mountain at the historic village of Cimarron, it the wonderful St. James Hotel.  They have a restaurant and LOTS of history:  https://mvacationproperties.com/st-james-hotel

Everyone rides the "Enchanted Circle", and it's great!  But NM-434 from Mora up to Angel Fire is super-cool.  NM-518 between Ranchos de Taos and Mora is super cool.  US-64 between Eagle Nest and Cimarron is fantastic.

I generally like a motel with a restaurant close enough to walk to and a good breakfast.  Baymont Suites in Cortez has both.  Also covered motorcycle parking.

Report back on how the trip goes, best roads, and things you recommend.  I've been eyeing that area for a ride myself, but don't know too much about it other than looking at Butler maps suggested routes.  Be glad to hear your experience in that region.

Note on Rocker’s map you pass through Chama and Cimarron. Check out the Cumbres and Toltec Narrow gauge RR in Chama and St James Hotel in Cimarron. +1 on Eagles Nest.

I am somewhat familiar with the area but from driving not riding. The roads Rocker mentioned are all great.
