In other news..
I took advantage of the rare warmer weather here, though still plagued by a coastal breeze, to respray the sad looking front mudguard.
First, I carefully used a craft knife to get samples from the flaky paint on the mudguard and a little from the left sidepanel. Popped into a used bag, backed by some thin cardboard, I sent these off in an envelope to one of the UK-based paint suppliers. (Just FYI: EH Factors - relatively expensive but superb customer service, so worth it!)

The closest match they suggested was (Alfa Romeo/Fiat) Azzurro 437B and though I was a little sceptical (having read through numerous internet posts where it was mentioned only once), I reckon it's a very close if not perfect match.

Wasn't the best rattle can job that I've done - there's an annoying run that I may tackle at some point - it turned out better than I anticipated. I had some dregs left over, so masked off the decals etc. on that sidepanel and gave it a quick coat. Sorry no pics and it was just a nasty cover-up job. :embarrassed: If I end up going to the expense of getting a decal set, then I may do a 'proper' respray job (health/wealth/weather permitting).

I had one of those for a while but I was glad to off road it.

The 4 valve small blocks were the V35 Imola II, V50 Monza II, V65 Lario, and later the V75.

Not the same as the V50 I / II / III. Also, the 4-valve heads weren’t Herons. The heads were dished, and I think it would be considered a bathtub style combustion chamber?

In my experience the exhaust system is always tricky to fit (V65 Florida & V50 in my case)....I had all sorts of problems with angles/clearances etc on both, but ultimately seems slacking everything & redoing it in a way that sort of  'locks bits in certain places' is the way to go eg Tighten everything/use straps to hold the silencer in place, then bugger about with headers & link pipe (& then try it a different way when that doesn't work) !!

I fitted a 650cc engine in the V50-3, so this added to the difficulty of lining up the original V50 system - headers are about an inch higher up....but somehow it did fit w/out leaking exhaust. F

or the wheel axle on V50, the silencer runs LOW enough that it never hits (you can see from pic the wheel is still above centre of silencer even on main stand - even more clear when I sit on it w/out stand). For the V65 Fl it was even harder as rear axle centre IS in line with upswept exhaust & clearances are 'nominal'. Again it works with straps/woodworking clamps & trial-and-error, but still looks worrying close !

Paul

I managed to squeeze the new stainless clamps onto the silencers, just. They've tightened up well.
I have the right silencer fitting fine now - might even get a socket onto the spindle nut.
The left side is impeded by the sidestand spring stub as well as the sidestand itself - I can't rotate the header outwards without the gear lever hitting it. I have levered the silencer outwards a tiny bit and compromised by adding washers between the silencer and its footpeg bracket. It doesn't touch now when on the centrestand and both silencers now sit at (close to) the same height.
I can live with this.

Sounds right   My gearlever barely misses the header on downshift (somehow no marks on it); for my brake lever could just about fit a fag paper between it & header when pushed down. Tighter tolerances on exhaust fitting that most of the engine parts !
