Starter cranks but engine cuts out, 2014 Cali 1400 Touring

Hello folks,

Bike is a 2014 California 1400 Touring with 30k miles. I experienced a sudden starting issue, the starter turns over but engine cuts out right after the starter crank. I sounds like there is no fuel delivery. Recently it cut out while stopping the cruise control while riding, it picked up again when twisting the throttle. For a day it started after multiple trials and keeps running just fine. This happened on a way home from a long trip. The following day, the bike is cranking, but can't keep running. Any pointers, and know issues like this one? Thanks for any feedback!

Could be you just need fresh fuel, maybe bad gas. Could be fuel line came off filter or such. Could be spark related unless you checked you have spark.
Easiest way is w/a timig light, put it on & look for a light. Have you looked for a code on dash?

Check your battery terminals, connectors and relays

 Just a hunch, sounds like a fuel supply issue:
Fuel filter,pump or something in-between.
its not the end of the world...but you can see it from here!

Do you have voltage to the coils? If not, it won’t start, all it will do is crank.

Remove a plug, keep it connected lay it on the valve cover and look for spark as it cranks.

An ICE needs air, gas and spark to run.

Update:

Update, pulled the injectors from the intake manifolds and cleaned and tested the injectors, pulled the tank and pulled the fuel pump assembly, no visual obvious damage to hoses and fuel filter. Changed the fuel filter of the fuel pump assembly. Adjusted valve clearances, all were slightly off (too loose), added new spark plugs and air filter. Visual inspection of coils, spark plug cables, throttle cable and throttle wire servo unit under the tank, no obvious damages. Did start up test which produced a hesitant and rough idle. Started the bike, good idle and throttle response.

To the injectors: Tested both injectors on resistance, both are 15.5 Ohm, which is in the upper 14.8 +/-5% tolerance as listed in the shop manual, so far no obvious fault. Then tested both injectors on an injector tester which provides low and high output injector routines . The low power tests did not produce any reaction from one of the injectors...however the normal idle and throttle response doesn't show a difference in the bike when riding it. When I get my GuzziDiag cables I will do some more analysis.

Just a thought here from an issue I had years ago with a BMW R1100R. I used to fill my fuel tank to the brim and some fuel would spill out and down the holes to the EPA mandated charcoal recirculating tank. Well what happened is that the charcoal tank got full and clogged and would not let the fuel tank breath and the bike would cut off or run crappy. The best way to test that is to open the fill lid when this happens, if there is a vacuum/sucking sound then something is clogging the fuel tank breather, keeping the fuel from flowing properly to the injectors. Fuel for thought....
