'78 LeMans value
« on: October 27, 2025, 01:37:20 PM »
Wondering if anyone knows of recent sales of a '78 LeMans..I was recently involved in an accident on my LeMans..sitting at a stop sign when a pickup came around the corner cutting the corner too sharp and ruining my day. Now having to deal with my insurance company trying to low ball me on the value. Hagerty shows current values ranging from $22,800-Concours to $8900 for Fair. I'd put mine somewhere between Good-$11,500 and Excellent-$17,300. The Insurance company is telling me that the Bike's NADA condition rating is Good and is offering $5,700...What to do? As the driver of the pickup was obviously to blame, I don't know why my insurance doesn't go after him

Were the cops called and was an accident report made? If so you can go after the other guy or a lawyer can. We have dozens here who would be happy to.

I'd get together any pictures and get an appraisal from Harper's MG, Moto Guzzi Classics and the like. If you've bought bits from them in the past, all the better.
Go to bring a trailer and document what similar bikes have sold for. It's up to you to do the footwork so you don't get dicked. $5,700 is robbery.

As the driver of the pickup was obviously to blame, I don't know why my insurance doesn't go after him

FWIW, I got rear ended on one of my bikes in '23.  The other operator was at fault & cited.  When i called my insurer (Progressive) I was basically told to call back if the other party doesn't pay for damages, etc.  I got a lawyer.
Also, the other guys insurer was Allstate.  Allstate offered me $6200 for my totalled 2012 wee Strom that had 58k on the clock.  I had bought brand new in '12 for $10k OTD.  The personal injury claim is another matter.  IMHO, your bike, sight unseen, is probably worth wayyyyy more than what they're offering you.  And, gathering details on the current values/going rate for a '78 Lemans will help your case.   Good luck and glad to hear you're still in this side of the turf.

Apologies for not reading closely. If you document the value and tell the other insurer you will waive any injury claim they will probably pay you to go away.I assume you don’t have any serious injuries,in which case get a lawyer.

Thats good advice from T Kelly. Thats what I would do in this case. Did you have uninsured and underinsured motorist  coverage on your policy?
