Looking for motorcycle friendly Louisiana roads

My wife and I need to get out of Minn winter head south ( get in some motorcycle ridding) to someplace you can leave the windows open at night, and sit around a campfire. We are planning to just head south until it warms up, thinking Arkansas so we can attend their rally. But depending on weather we may have to go further East, West, or South,at this point we’re looking for warmth and no white stuff. We welcome ideas/ suggestions for anyone familiar with South Central USA that has ideas for nice camping and motorcycle friendly roads please provide areas of interest. We’re thinking Arkansas,Texas, Louisiana. You can post here, send pm, or send email, just looking for warm rides and friendly roads.

Not a road recommendation, but one thing I will say about rural Arkansas and Lousiana, especially in the flat delta land, is be mindful of the speed limit. For some reason, they have miles of wide open farm road with 55 mph limits. There are troopers down there that routinely pull over swarms of cars doing 65, and write them up. Your out of state plates will be a dinner bell for some of them.

The run from Talihena OK to Mena Arkansas runs along the Winding Stairs mountains. Old Shongaloo had a good burger stand in the ‘80s, it’s on the LA/AR border east of the ArkLaTex..the highest point in La is Driscoll mountain. We rode to the summit, har har. The western border with Texas around Stonewall was a favorite when we would ride to Zowallie for that fat Zowallie sound on some Saturdays.then to the east to run through the bayou's where we would get lost. We got stopped by fourteen inches of rain once. Found a motel, one room left. I haven’t been there in more than thirty years and that whole area was great riding. Freeways were awful but the back roads are wonderful, especially this time of year when the flowers are blooming. Someone from there will be along to tell us some current good roads. I’d like to ride around that area again

Some Louisiana Guzzisti used to put on a rally at a great motorcycle campground near the town where Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed in northern Louisiana.

Rides along the border between East Texas and Louisiana are beautiful curvy roads, lots of pine trees.   Visit the town of Joaquin and the vintage motorcycle museum they have...quite a nice collection. 

You can overnight in Rusk at the KOA which has wonderful cabins as well, all of the roads thru Gladewater, Rusk to Palestine and circling back to the Louisiana border are very enjoyable.  You can cross over at the Toledo Bend reservoir back and forth near the town of Milam (highway 21 on the Texas side, highway 6 on the Louisiana side).

Tons of good riding in Arkansas. Stay out of the delta, and you have some of the best roads in the USA. The Ozarks and the Ouachitas are great riding areas. One of my favorite roads is Hwy 123, with great curves and scenery. So much info its hard to tell you all of it on a forum. If you're going to the Arkansas camp out, bring a map and I'll make some routes for you. I'll be at campsite 84.

I live in what we call North Lou.  There are a ton of very good riding roads around here and even more gravel ones.  No, it's not the mountains (and you can no longer take a vehicle to the top of Driskill Mountain) but they are very good and generally in good shape.

We have a casita at our place that is just about ready for visitors.  We're going to put it on Bunk A Biker later this year.  You're welcome to come on down and stay here in Ruston.  I can show you some good roads or at least map them for you.

We also have one of the best parks in the state and it's within walking distance of our house.  Lincoln Parish Park.

Oh yeah, we have a fire pit.

Sadly, due to all the "great motorcycle road" comments on the internet and the resulting increased traffic, many "great roads" have become "formerly great roads"  Some very well known roads have installed speed bumps and lowered speed limits due to motorcyclists "behavior."  I've been on roads that a few years ago you could ride and hardly see any other vehicles and now you would be in a crowd.  :(

The Texas Hill country would be fine re traffic in the winter though it can get pretty darned cold!  In the summer, (IMO) it's too hot and there is way too much traffic to be enjoyable.

Our plans are leaving Monday AM, making it to southern Ia/ Missouri, Tue headed toward Lake Of The Ozarks, depending on temps/ weather Thursday or Friday going further South,East,or West. Then we have 2 1/2 weeks to meander wherever, then starting our trip back north via the Arkansas Moto Guzzi rally.

Again thanks,if we need to head more south I’ll try PM you and get your opinions about roads and routes. We’re considering suggestions people have posted here, no firm itineraries yet.
