I’m sure I’m getting rusty.

At short notice yesterday, I headed out on a 1,000 km overnight trip on my V85. I would have taken my Norge except that I am waiting on a set of injectors.
But here’s the thing…
The fatigue that we all feel after a few hours, crept in a bit sooner than usual and I reckon it’s because I’m not doing as much as I have in the past, the point here is that we need to stay in practice.
There are a lot of ways you can come unstuck, I got a bit twitchy and “nervous”.
I began to become overly concerned on wet roads with off camber and bumps etc…
That’s probably a good thing in a lot of respects, but I was aware that I was fading a bit, I need to do more. But anyway, I got home safely.
That little V85 is a nice thing though.
It glides over road irregularities and has all the performance I want, is comfortable and the cruise control is beaut..
The Norge puts it to shame a bit for weather protection, but in anything other than cold weather there is no problem.
I forgot how good it is..

We all ride worse when we are tense and uncomfortable. Even the best in the world, like Bagnaia. And when you are tense, grip drop and make things even worse. That is why it generally is more useful to ride short stints frequently, than long trips infrequently - it helps us keep sharp. Same with workouts; 10 minutes per day is much better than two hours once per month.

I try to go riding every day, some days only 13mi, but 1/2 is curves & 1/2 strait & fast. Keeps me proficient. Then there's the WOOPTY DO circuit, all, hills, curves at the top & bottom & across the creeks. Here you don't have to go up to mtns to have fun.

You wired me awake
And hit me with a hand of broken nails
You tied my lead and pulled my chain
To watch my blood begin to boil
But I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
Too cold to start a fire
I'm burning diesel, burning dinosaur bones
I'll take the river down to still waters
And ride a pack of dogs
I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
When the forest burns along the road
Like God's eyes in my headlights
When the dogs are looking for their bones
And it's raining icepicks on your steel shore
I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run
I'm gonna break
I'm gonna break my
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run

There is no doubt. Riding every day keeps you sharp. Reaction time increases and endurance decreases when just riding a couple times a month. This is from a now retired, ex-daily motorcycle commuter in Socal. Truly sad when a 150 mile stretch or 3 hour ride wears you out.

Over many years of riding I knew some days when I started out early on the ride, into the curves, I just did not have the "MOJO" with me and I took it a lot easier and sometimes even turned back when I was (often) alone or cut the ride short. *Why I am still here today.

And dont forget to drive frequently into an empty parking lot, do figure eights, slalom (i use cut in half tennis balls as markers ) AND a few hard emergency stops from at least 40mph
when was the last time you practiced your panic braking in a safe environment?
Exactly
And not a bad idea to take an advanced riding on-road refresh course with an instructor who watches how you ride and can give you input.
Did a 3 day intensive one last year, was super helpful.
300$ well spent for my survival.
