Love it! Great to see someone appreciate and RIDE the machines! When I was touring New Zealand on a Triumph T100 I ran into a fellow who was the original owner of a BSA single (actually, it was a twin as confirmed by the pic I found and posted below). He was retired NZ military, and LOOKED the part - complete with a waxed handlebar mustache, well weathered wax cotton riding jacket, and cavalry boots. We were on the ferry to the north island lashing down our bikes for the crossing. His was loaded up, bags, duffel, tank bag. I was part of a group, most were riding BMW GS's, he would only speak with me as my bike was the only one of "proper Empire Manufacture." He introduced himself as "I am Colonel Archibald Exulte Standard, but I allow my acquaintances to address me as Colonel." A real character, indeed! The BSA was purchased new, and has been his only transport since. He felt "motorcars are vulgar" and "to properly experience travel it must be immersive". I bought him a beer on the ferry, and we rode together out of Wellington for a few hours before parting company; it was raining pretty good, but DAMN if I could barely keep up with the guy! Hell of a character, hell of a rider. World needs more like this guy!

Some years back, my brother met up with a longtime rider of old bikes, and had owned his 1959 British (forgot the brand) bike since new. Usually happy and cheerful, my brother noticed that the elder gentleman looked somewhat down. When my brother asked what it was, the owner said he had let a friend borrow his bike. My brother asked if this friend had damaged the bike, to which the owner replied: He WASHED it! Apparently, there were flies on the bike dating back all the way to 1959 that were now lost...

Knew I had a pic somewhere! I remember it as a "single" but in looking at the pic it was actually a twin with single side exhaust.

While it's nice to see old machines perfectly maintained,
I think it's better to see them used. This one isn't a nail,
it's a working bike well used by a rider enjoying himself.

That's the point!
