West Virginia Guzzi Rally at Pipestem Park
« on: October 02, 2016, 05:12:07 PM »
Just providing a place here for the FOLKS WHO WERE SMART ENOUGH TO BRING A CAMERA to post their pictures; I will provide the grinding and thankless labor of starting the topic (Oh, it's already done).

I went and had a good time.   Monsoonish rains on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge on Friday - US 460 eastbound washed out near Bedford, streams of water 6" deep washing across the roads, then beautiful weather the rest of the weekend.

20 folks attended - I think that 6 camped, and the rest (of us) stayed in the Lodge and in local motels.   Rally gatherings were generally in the restaurants at which we ate, which were all pretty good.

Travman, Bill Hagan and I spent Saturday riding a couple hundred miles on some really nice West Virginia roads to the west and south of Pipestem.

We discussed items of importance like "Why do so many WV houses have 6 derelict cars in the yard, worth $200 each as scrap?   Why not cash them in?" to which the consensus answer was "They're exactly like us and our Guzzi projects - they're ALWAYS going to get A Round Tuit someday ...." and solved World Hunger and dodged multiple deer.

The Greenbriar River was high and muddy so we didn't see any eagles, but a good time was had by all .... Longest to the rally was 439 miles, and oldest rider was 74 ... Nobody there is young, so there can't be a Youngest Rider.

Beautiful roads and a nice place for the rally.

And the question that I have, "do all of those ten foot satellite dish antennas still pick up a signal?".

Yes, a grand time ... less, of course, the deluge on the way down, but even that has it memories worth telling ... well, OK, if only to myself!

And, yes, I brought my phone, which doubles as my camera (as that's all I use these days).

Got back last night, and leave for Atlanta tomorrow, so my usual "too many" pix will have to wait for some down time later this week.

Bottom line, tho, is that it is hard to imagine a better site as a base for a Guzzi event than Pipestem.  The facility, roads within striking distance, and other factors are all first-rate.

Oh, and tho Wayne warned me, there must not be a deer season in that part of W.V., as I saw more there in one foggy morning than in a month at my place in rural Virginia!

Kudos to the leaders/organizers, who likely had to endure the usual carping by someone who was disgruntled (tho I heard only compliments, not complaints) and "hep" from Lemuel in France.

The latter's "non-presence" and our Italian Guzzis were not the only international presence, as 20% of the attendees were from Germany and France.

Back to my list of home tasks before Kathi returns from Seattle next week and "The Reckoning."   :thewife:

Thanks for a great rally.

Bill

Wished I could have made it.

I'll bet they don't serve this at the Greenbriar.

I bet they don't serve it at Marlinton either ...

I also understand that there are TV shows where WV "hillbillies" purport to be committing Federal felonies on national TV, making moonshine ... It's all in good fun, though, and folks will believe what they want to believe; otherwise, how would Tony Atlas and Hulk Hogan ever have made it?
