He was my hero when I was a pup. I still have my Yogi catcher's mitt and an autographed baseball.

He got to the fork in the road, and he took it.

look him up in the record books and you'll be surprised!!!

He was a hell of a catcher and called the only no hitter in World Series history.

Most played W.S. ,Most W.S. rings,etc.

Prayers going up for Yogi.....Alan

One of the best clutch hitters with men on base, ever. I remember someone asking Dizzy Dean how to pitch to Yogi with men on base.. "High and behind him.."

Arguably the best catcher to ever play the game.  Certainly the best character.

We've never seen many like him.   He was so funny, that a lot of people didn't realize what a good baseball player he was .... A really admirable guy.

My father played Triple A ball in the late 1930's and we lived in NJ so he was friendly with some of the later Major League players like Berra.  He had lunch with Berra sometimes and mentioned Yogi didn't pick up the check  But my father also said Berra was an excellent ball player.
Watching Yankee games on TV in the 1950's and once in awhile the camera would catch Berra and other players sneaking a smoke in the dugout tunnel.....They smoked and not the muscle men like modern players but they still played hard...

At the risk of clich - I thought he already had taken this fork.

Just goes to show ya: There are some people who, if they don't already know, you can't tell 'em.

You know, he always said:

Now we can find out if that's for sure ....

No player wore "the tools of ignorance" better than Yogi . It is unfortunate that catchers get almost no glory , being as they are the most important player on the field . Can you imagine squatting for long periods of time with some tall guy flinging a baseball at you as hard as possible , and some other guy swinging a club 4 inches from your face , and then some fella in a black suit standing over your shoulder screaming in your ear . Then the next day , that fella flinging the ball is throwing knucklers that dart around like a butterfly , and every third pitch doesn't quite hit the sweet spot of the glove , but rather catches a finger , or a bone in your hand . Oh , let's not forget foul tips that whack your face mask or groin at 80 MPH , OUCH . Would you even apply for a job with this description ?

Yeah, I can.  The scouts said I was a good high school catcher.  They found out immediately that I didn't have depth perception.. I didn't know it.
It's the best position on the field, as far as I'm concerned. Never a dull minute..

I don't know if anyone's interested - but Freebo wrote a song about him (called Yogi oddly enough).  If you go here ..

http://freebomusic.com/music/listen

then to "End of the Beginning" and scroll down to track you can hear it.

(If you don't know, Freebo was Bonnie Raitt's bass player for years.)

From NPR

"Yogi, What kind of funeral arrangements would you like when you die."

Yogi: "I don't know. Surprise me."
