How to Clean Primed Side Covers Before Painting?
« on: March 02, 2015, 11:58:46 AM »
I really have to paint the fiberglass Jackal side covers I bought. I got them primed and sanded a long time ago, but I am wondering: what do I have to do to make sure the primer is clean enough for painting? I'm sure it has fingerprints on it.

The paint shop where you get your paint will have a can of wax and grease remover. I use that instead of alcohol.
Sand, Scotch brite, wax & Grease remover, tack, shoot.

I also use the wax and grease remover.  Scuff with 400 grit sandpaper, use scotchbrite for the corners and tack off prior to paint.  Just finished a V7 classic tank using that very procedure.

I found out the primer I used was probably not going to work with real auto paint, so today I had to blow a big wad of cash on primer and hardener. This will end up costing me a lot more than having a shop do it, but I wanted to learn how to use the equipment for future projects. Tomorrow I get to remove the old primer, and that will be fun.
