Mounting 40mm carbs on Le Mans
« on: August 21, 2015, 04:20:12 PM »
Can I mount 40mm Dellortos on the standard inlet rubbers for Mk 1/2 2 Le Mans 36mm manifolds / rubbers ?

Will this mod work?

Or do the heads need to be ported to accept 40mm manifolds and rubbers?

Will I need to change the slide?

Thanks

Simon

I don't know about using the original rubber mounts, I've never used them.  I have Keihin 41mm, with fuel resistant hose to 'stock' intake manifolds. The intake manifolds and heads have been heavily ported and gasket matched.  Doing all the port work , as well as the 'built' motor, required bigger carbs to maximize optimum power/torque.  Is your motor stock?  If so, you should probably stick to the original carb size.

No, and you don't want 40's on it either. Even on the LM IV, the 40's are cranky and need a light touch below 3500 rpm. On a smaller engine with less compression you'd regret the effort.
Something wistful and amusing, yet poignant.
