A brief weekend road-trip report
« on: March 29, 2015, 07:45:02 PM »
Needed to stretch the legs of the Ambassador, left yesterday morning(34degrees) and headed to Savannah using no interstates.
1st stop, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit where the Trappist monks grow beautiful Bonsai plants.

Next stop was unscheduled, and came many hours later, 40 miles short of Savannah and a couple hours 'till dark.
A squishy feeling in the bikes handling was an unwelcome flat rear tire. Balls!
Fortune smiled as a beautiful angel appeared in the form of a 65yr.old, balding, overweight fellow who took me in, in spite of his fears that we were in "Meth Country".
I am forever grateful to him!
So hoist him up, and get on with it!

Got in late, but I was in warmer climes~or so I thought..
Morning brought some more nipply weather!

But Savannah is as pretty as ever.

The ride home was great, I even saw a goofy car.
664 miles, there and back.THE END  ~P.S. What did your angel look like?

Kathi and I have done that trip fem Atlanta -- and, yes, as you, all by back roads -- several times on the EV when we owned a home in Hinesville.  It's a very long day, as you know, even without a flat.

And, as you also know, while Georgia's mountains are north of Atlanta, there are some charming back roads and towns to the south.

Thanks for posting the story and pix.

Bill

P.S. Don't know your route, but if near Dublin again, consider this place for a great stay and grand cuisine. http://www.dublinfarm.com

How in the world did you find a shop equipped like that that was willing to help you fix a tire?

And take note, that goofy car is one of the nicest, best-driving cars on the road, today included (IMNSHO)!    Not many Citroens here ...

Thanks for the ride report!

I know, right! I swear, I slowed toward the side of the road and into a hard packed dirt driveway right into this place!
Emory Roberts is his name. I called the number on the side of bldg. and he walks out of his home next store. opens the place up to me, leaves to have dinner w/ his daughter and brings me back pizza and coke!! The place is huge with other rooms back further full of machining equipment. I'm tellin' ya, it had something to do w/ stopping @ that monastery
Hey, here's another one of those goofy things that was on the side of the building where the other one was. plus there were two more!

Looks like that's a nice place to ride. And that's a beautiful bike you have there!

If I'm not mistaken, that beige 2 door Citroen is an SM model, the one with the Maserati engine (either 2.7 or 3.0 litre). Quite rare. Haven't seen one of those in years, even on this side of the pond!

Taz,

That is a nice road and glad you found a friend.  My daughter is graduating from SCAD in Savannah end of May.
We will be there for the big stage walk and tassle flip and hopefully...career launch.

Man I wish I had your kind of luck. Glad it worked out as it did for you. Any words as to the cause of of the tire with the square side?

Not positive, I was told it is an Italian police fairing. I added the "elephant earlobes" to keep more wind off me! (those "curtains" hanging from fairing)

This small piece of aluminum just my take on art deco bling

Brick road + rail tracks = blurred vision but River street is the bomb!

Lucian, yes, good fortune smiled (and he never caught on I was a dad burn Yankee!) ~Never did pinpoint cause of flat, through in spare tube I always carry.
Oh, and RinkRat, they weren't exactly giving away those Bonsai ! :D ~"decent donation to the monastery" on it's way!!
