My LM IV never had whatever retains the ignition switch in the housing. It doesn't go anywhere, but is highly annoying especially now that the rest of the thing is so nice.

What was there? Can it be had separately? I haven't had any luck finding one locally.

I've got a guy who made up some. It is a plastic fine threaded nut with knurled on the circumference. Might be able to get another one.

If this is the same nut used on the le mans III to retain the ignition switch then I also would be interested. Any dimensions would be useful if you could supply.

They're like chicken teeth. I met a guy at the Wisconsin rally that said he'd give some he had made up out of aluminum to the Kid, but that's never happened.

If someone can come up with a used switch for fitment, I'm game to try and make a stack of re-pops. Just need the thread dimensions and that is easier with the matching part in hand.

I have to take the dash off one more time to finalize everything, I'll do my best to get meaningful measurements for diameter and thread pitch. What particulars would you need measured?

I measured the switch head;

21.9mm thread diameter

16.9mm key cyl. diameter

8.5mm thread height

2.5mm bracket thickness

2.0mm key cyl. height

That'd work for me. It's going to be a tough little job, though. Probably should have a switch, too, for thread fitup.

Don't see the need for Patrick to make more when the job has been done. Pretty sure Jim has more left. They are plastic just like the original. Maybe they won't break like those did.

Would a Japanese bike one fit ? Metal lock ring but you could paint it to suit. I bought a polished stainless steel one from UK

Not much room at the bottom of the big rubber dash cover, it needs to be pretty thin I think, like those pictured above. I had no luck at the local Jap bike shop finding anything among the switches they had in stock.

First ones went in the mail today. Need to get more from jim tomorrow. Picked up a box of padded envelopes and figured out 1st class usps shipping. $3 Mostly cover both. So figure $5 per nut +$3 to ship however many you'd like.

I used a small drill to drill 2 holes in the nut 180 degrees apart and then used snap ring pliers to spin it off and then back on. Might make it easier.
