V9 versus V5 carb needle in VHB29 carbs on a V700
« on: April 15, 2015, 07:35:12 PM »
I am replacing the SS1 carbs with VHB29's on my V700 restoration and have a question about needles. Guzziology calls for a V5 needle and I thought that is what I ordered when I bought replacement carb parts. However, it looks like I received V9's from my supplier (who may have considered them equivalent) and I currently have the V9's in my rebuilt carbs. Checking the specs on the Dell Orto website, I see that the only difference between the V5 and V9 needle is that the tapered portion is 1 mm longer for the V5. So my question is will the V9 needles work fine for this application or should I order a set of V5's? If folks think the V9's will work, should I raise them up a notch from the middle notch to third from top or keep them in the middle notch?

In my experience, the V9s will work fine, no need to change the clip position even.
