A Little Happy, A Little Sad
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:49:15 AM »
I just watched my Norge leave on a trailer with its new owner. I really couldn't keep the bike, I need the money and was hoping it would sell before my upcoming trip. Still, I'm surprised at how sorry I am to see it go. I guess I've just got sellers' remorse. I cleaned and polished her up yesterday, so she'd look good for her new owner.
I am one step closer to being homeless this summer, and that makes me happy. I've secured fairly cheap storage for my possessions that I want to keep, and I'll start moving things over this coming week. I'm feeling a bit of anticipation.
The word ambivalent was coined to describe this exact situation.

The short version is, all over the US and maybe even parts of Canada and Alaska. I'm hitting the road for a couple of reasons. One is a Tribute Ride for my oldest friend who died unexpectedly last year. We had been planning a cross country trip from Boston to L.A., with highlights along the way. The other reason is that I want to see Family and friends that I haven't seen in years. I want to revisit some memorable scenes from my past, and see some places that I never had the chance to visit. I'm recently retired, and I think my Social Security check will be better spent on gas and camping instead of rent for an apartment and Utilities.

So then, what's the "Crusty Freedom Tour" gonna be taken on/in?

Sounds like a righteous plan on your part.

Cool Sportser.  So you got rid of thr MG primarily because of lack of tech support out on the road

All roads to Alaska pass through Whitehorse ... Yukon ... Canada...
Give me two days notice and I'll tidy the apartment above my shop. Give me no notice and you'll have do it yourself.

You have planned quite an adventure for yourself.  ;-T

Re the emotions of watching a loved, well-ridden bike leaving on someone else's trailer is not easy.  I felt a similar emotional tug when I watched my W650 head off to places west of Chicago.  Likewise, when my Triumph Bonnie T100 made its way to Philadelphia.  I found the W had been sold to a 3rd owner in Florida, and I actually saw where the poor little creature popped up on Craigslist, looking worse for wear.  On the other hand, the Triumph is still owned by the individual who purchased it from me, and he's made her better than the day he purchased her.  I find myself occasionally reading the new owner's posts, just to make sure the Bonnie is still doing her thing ..... and she is!

Crusty -

I hope you're marking up a map with places that you can hang out for a few days and regroup, work on the bike, rest up, whatever.   One of them's here at my house in Appomattox County, VA - spare room, bathroom, shop space, all that.

First, THANK YOU for the offers of places to stay. Your generosity is very touching and I appreciate it. If it looks like I may be in your neck of the woods, I will shoot you a PM a bit in advance.

Crusty,

You are my hero.  My life in comparison is a corporate drudge of commuting, long hours, and dealing with needy family members.

Freedom from "stuff" must be glorious.  Relationships and family are fabulous, but at times are a tangled knotted web of expectations.

If you want a place to stay in Sugar Land, TX...just look towards the SW corner of Houston.  Not much to see here though...I suggest the Hill Country instead.
