I lost my Best Friend, my Dog YOGI last Sunday.

I remember reading "Prairie Home Companion" by Garrison Keillor, and in one early chapter, he is away at college, living in a garage apartment with his dog Rusty and Rusty died one night.  He said he cried all night long.

So sorry for your loss Mike.   Dogs hold a special place in the hearts of dog lovers. We have been in your shoes and sympathize with you. Last time we swore we would not get another dog but only lasted two months and found a rescue Queensland Heeler.  It is just hard losing your buddy.

Sorry for your loss. Pets (especially dogs) are often much more than pets; they are part of the family.

We have two beautiful chocolate labs (sisters). They are our grandchildren (for now). We will be heart-broken when we lose them.

Three years since our just 5 year old female Scottie died from ingesting something toxic, probably a "death cap" mushroom.  We never saw that coming and have yet to get over our loss.  I hate to admit it, but the loss of no human has haunted me so.  I understand fully what you are experiencing.  Certain dogs just have a way of getting into our heads and our hearts, and only fools suggest we "Just get another one".

I've been through this painful sadness 4 times over the past 15 years, but this one hurts especially hard. Yogi's special soul simply reached into my heart deeper than any Best Friend had done before.

Yogi will never fade in my mind.

We lost our beloved Bruce exactly a year ago, so I can empathize. Like everyone else here, I'm sorry for your loss.

Great write-up Mike!  I felt your pain through the words and brought me back to losing my beloved dog just last September (13 yrs. old).  They are special creatures and very hard to let go.  Yours sounds especially so with you.  Remember your times together and laugh and cry about it.  You will for a good while and that's ok.  Memories are worth having and will live forever.
