Ambassador fork oil question - attention all loopers
« on: May 15, 2015, 10:27:30 AM »
I put my 72 Ambassador back on the road and want to change the fork oil. Someone told me to use 30 weight motor oil instead of 30 weight fork oil. Is this something that can or should be done and to what benefit?

I use 8 oz. of 30w fork oil in each leg. Never tried 30w motor oil so can't comment on the difference it makes if any.

I have 30 weight VR1 (all I had on hand at the time) in my Eldo and seems to work fine.

My input may only be marginally useful, but back in the day I was advised that I could save money by using ATF as fork oil in my Eldo. STIFF AS A BOARD, had to dump it and go buy some real fork oil.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

ATF is generally about equal and interchangeable to 10 weight fork oil. So if 10 weight was "stiff" wonder what 30 weight was like ???

Everybody stay calm!
You've all seen it before, no need to reply.
It was just simple question about a particular lubricating fluid and it's use.
It's been covered.
Just hit the back button and browse away to another topic........... ::)
