Murphy strikes again - how to get a Griso seat off?

Over the weekend I installed a Back-off flasher.  The flasher works great and people seem to notice it more.

BUT

Everyone I know has a big but -- Pee Wee Herman

When I screwed down the ground to a nearby frame screw that also holds the seat down I must have messed up the seat latch cable.  The key now turns freely for the seat latch. 

Does anyone know how to take the seat off when the latch won't release?
 
I've tried jerking upward and this can't be the first time it's happened to anyone.

you will probably have access to the seat latch if you remove all the three [1], [16], [10] black plastic bits above the rear wheel.

It helps on mine to punch the center of the seat with my knee while pulling up on the back. Seems to work.

Take it to a dealer for an air filter replacement, that should cover it ~;

The two pieces of plastic 10 & 16 are already gone.

Your suggestion is basically what I figured had to be done -- of course it is the hard way.

Take off the rear rack.

Take off the turn signals - and let them hang.

Take off the rear body wrap around panel.  The #1 black fender panel remaining is captured by the body wrap panel.

Pray to The Lord that there are no bolts under the seat which must be removed to get the body wrap off enough to access the latch.

Have you tried just pushing down on the pillion squab as you turn the keyandnd then lifting it up?

ooppss... looks like there are two bolts under the seat  :o

Last night I skipped the Scotch, put on the Ipod and had at it.

I removed my "cheaper" rack, turn signals & fender eliminator brackets, all the bolts in the rear body shroud and then got to fight those two little under-seat bolts that hold on the rear plastic clamping plate.  the usual tight quarters how the heck do I get a wrench on it battle

Once I got the body panel loose I rotated the front of the panel down and had a good idea -- I reached up and pulled the cable end.

Of course the seat popped of easy and I found my problem.  The lock arm which attaches to the cable had come loose.  That little 2-3 mm screw must have backed out so it's off to the hardware store for the 25 cent part that I will locktite the hell out of when I put it back on.

Being a member of the red suspenders gang I'm also going to rig up a hidden pull to go along with the factory seat lock "belt"
