Check Those V7 (smallblock) Tank Rubber Bolts
« on: May 10, 2015, 05:07:22 PM »
Last year Pete created a post regarding loose tank rubber bolts wearing a hole in the underside of the tank, but I can't find it.  I finally pulled my tank back (new centerstand helped) to check mine.  Sure enough, the left side was VERY loose.  Right was still tight.  I Loctited both and re-greased the rubber pucks for good measure.  Easy job, and doesn't take long.  Check yours' out!

I think this may only apply to the plastic tanks. I have a V7 II with a metal tank and I looked for the doughnuts like they were on the BREVA I had. No doughnuts?

No the 2TB and earlier 1TB metal tanks (like Cam's and mine) both came with donuts. I checked and Loctited mine (I forget, but I think both were tight).

Nope. It was a metal tank bike but a loose bolt, (Not the puck.) will wear through plastic or steel with equal alacrity.

I remember the original post, checked mine then and they were good. A few months later I was in there and sure enough, one was completely missing! I replaced it with a Honda puck and a Phillips button-head screw that I hand laying around. Then a few weeks later what should come falling out of the engine area, that missing puck!

I don't see how it could fall off with the tank in place without having bored a hole in the tank?

The only thing I can think of is that it became dislodged during tank installation, ironically when the tank had been removed to check the pucks.
