1990 California III advice/input please

I bought a 1990 California III full fairing bike. I didn't ride it when I bought it, when I got it home, I fired it up to take it for a quick ride and almost immediately felt a vibration & heard what I can only describe as a dragging sound, almost like on a car when your brake pads are worn down metal on metal and you apply the brakes. When you pull in the clutch, sound goes away. It doesn't do all the time or at least I don't notice it every time. While I'm asking questions, the kickstand lets the bike lean way over. Is there a bushing that is worn out or some other issue. Any help would be great.

What kickstand is it -- police or sport style?

Is the noise and vibration as the engine turns or as the wheels turn?

When you pull the clutch in there is no noises or vibrations.

Clutch disengaged and no noise but noise with clutch engaged with wheels not turning = transmission. Whether it is a noise or a sound is another matter. No doubt a man of your wide and varied experience can determine that!

Clutch throw-out bearing?
Opposite, engaged is hand off the lever.
If it vibrated in the right footboard and made a noise while under way that is classic u-joint/carrier failure.

The police style leans over farther than the sport style.  But there is a nut and post and a 'sloppy' locking arrangement.  I mean sloppy because it's very loose tolerance, but it's also very solid.

Examine the post and tab business at the top of the pivot point.  See if anything looks visibly worn.  Look at the tab to see if it's bent or badly notched.  If all of that seems on the oky-doky and you're still not happy with the lean angle, you can either add a 'shoe' to the bottom of the foot (recommended) or have the stand bent to an angle that gives you better lean without also slapping the muffler when it's retracted.

If you see something that looks amiss, report back and we'll try to help.

You need to help us out on the noise/vibration.  With your short answers you're not being helpful.  Tell us a story.  Be wordy.  Read the comments and help us out with the clues.  We don't have time to imagine what you might mean, and at this point you might mean any number of things.  Me, I'd like to help, but I've got problems of my own . . .  so if I'm going to take time to help sort it for you (and I think I speak for everyone so inclined), do your part.   :smiley:

As Rodekyll points out, not enough information to go on. I'll throw 2 pennies in by asking if this is a dual plate clutch?  If so, might be the rattle??

Is the stand at a perfect right angle from the bike when deplyed or is it angled forward? If forward the nut on top of the stand is loose and or the locking tab is worn. Likely it's both.

As for the noise, describe it better.
