Ontario trek June 6-9
« on: June 09, 2015, 10:33:47 PM »
Just got home a few hours ago  :bike-037: Going to sort the few pictures I took and see if I can draw a map of the route for you guys then I will give the full report. All I will say right now is the trip started off with everyone waiting for me while I robbed the coils off the 84' cal 2 and pipe clamped them under my tank. I was not a happy camper(slightly understated, right dad?)  :weiner:

Well I have been fighting google maps for far to long and I give up. Going to put up a link to my map. Can someone tell me if they can access it? And if anyone knows of a better program to draw out a trip please let me know.

It was around 1800 miles round trip.

Welcome back!  Regardless of the slow start it had to be a good run.   :thumb:

Yes, the map shows.  I've seen northern lights on hiway 58 in Wisconson.  Also more roadkilled raccoons and possums than anywhere else.

Here is us ready to go. Family friend rode with us for a short bit and dad rode with us for 1 1/2 hrs.

From right to left, Yamaha virago, Indian classic, GS850 suzuki, V65C Guzzi, Yamaha Venture.

Last 90 miles of the first day it rained hard, mid 50's and cold. Was planning on making it to Duluth, MN but gave up in Superior, WI. Weren't the only ones taking shelter from the storm.

Saddling back up Sunday morning.

Few pictures of the trek up Superior road, yes we took the scenic route.

Right to left. Me, my uncle Rick(Indian), and my older brother Jeremy(Yamaha).

Fog rolled in.

My first time in Canada. Border check was a breeze.

Little V65C led all but 5 hours of the trip.

Got off Hwy 11 to Atikokan, Ontario to discover road work. Muddy gravel for 3 miles. Does this make the V65C an adventure bike now?

Hotel in Dryden, Ontario. Furthest north my brother and I went, Rick waved goodbye Monday morning and he was off to Vancouver. Jealous I am.

502 and 622 Were great rides. Little bit of rain but nothing worth rain gear.

Smiled the whole way.

Stopped at The House on the Rock in WI on the way back, interesting place. Sounded like I burnt up the right side exhaust gasket but it turned out to be the flange on the pipe broke off. Last 4 hours the poor bike sounded like a tractor.

Finally got home and had the most beautiful welcoming committee ever.

Loved Ontario, wish I could move there. People were mostly friendly. The only thing I didn't like was if you went the speed limit or just above people would ride your tail and eventually pass regardless of passing zone, was a bit nervous a few times when impatient people pass going up hills and around blind curves. One other time had 2 people stopped in the road around a curve chatting with each other, that will make you pucker. Never once saw police in Canada and very few in MN or WI.
Ready to go again.  :bike-037:

I really would have liked to tag along with the boys on their Canada run, but I'm getting a little too old, a little too fast. Last year Chris and I went to Dayton, Ohio for the air show. 430 miles out, stayed the next day, rode home the 3rd day. That's about all I can handle as I've been a little busted up over the years. Back, shoulders, both ankles, and the typical crap that comes with old age as well. These guys were knocking out 5-600 miles in a single day and refused to stop for my afternoon nap and 15 potty breaks! Ungrateful wretches.....Beside s, I really did not want to go anywhere that the mosquitoes are bigger than my bike. And they don't let me dictate anything like when they were little. That's OK, when I win the lottery I will set the terms once again. I am happy that the little V65 project got home in one piece with no major hangups. A little tweaking and it's ready for some serious distance.
