Olympia AST -2? ngc
« on: June 15, 2015, 11:27:42 AM »
I'm just looking for some feedback on anyone who has had one. I have read they aren't well made and others think they are great for the money. I may be looking at a lightly used one.

Had to Google it to find just what it was - a jacket.

There is no perfect jacket, but it's pretty good. Temp range is from the 40s to the 80s. The high collar keeps that nasty trickle of rain the goes down your back and ends up in your crotch at bay.  The liner can be worn as a jacket, a nice feature. I especially like the wide opening at the sleeves so you can put on a waterproof over glove and tuck it *inside* the sleeve while wearing the jacket, an especially nice feature. It's only good down into the mid 60s without the liner, a little cooler than most similar jackets. I'd say I like it as well as any I've had, and better than all except maybe my old MotoPort. That's all I can think of at the moment.

I think it's very well made. Chuck about said it all. The jacket and the Ranger pants are really versatile, and the jacket is fairly rain-resistant with the "waterproof" liner out. I haven't really tested it, liner in, in the heavy stuff, yet, as most miles were accumulated in Arizona... now that I'm relocated 'way north a rain test seems inevitable. I find the Velcro fastener on the collar just barely long enough to fit snugly around the neck. The venting works very well, on the whole, and allows you to progressively cool down as a summer day wears on. A hot day is at least bearable, if not comfy, in the jacket & pants. Great jacket.

I've been using an olympia ranger jacket for the last year and really like it. Gave up the leather, it's lighter warmer, with the inner jacket I'm good to 30 degrees, and the venting works terrific. Small pockets kind of stink but overall well made. I like the long flap on the back you sit on and no more climing up from wind blast.
