Live out in the country and this spring has been bad for mice. One time previous in eight years I had to have some minor wiring damage repaired. Now in the last three weeks our house A/C has had extensive damage from mice. This morning I noticed that it was not cooling/running. We had also noticed something smelling dead the last couple of days. So I take the cover off the electrical stuff and as I start removing the cover weird debris and weird thick semi liquid bits dropping out. Remove it all the way and jump back in horror to see a semi fried and semi decomposed what I think was a bull snake. Maggots and other weird bugs everywhere. Another mouse nest in there too.
A very wonderful old Holderman Mennonite technician with a very strong stomach came out and 3.5 hours later and some wiring improvisation along with one capacitor had things running again. It was also in the mid 90s all the while he was working. He apologized for the bill (which I thought was very reasonable considering all plus a Saturday) and told me if it was to much pay what I thought was right. I told him I wouldn't have taken that amount just to clean that mess out let alone the repairs. More than happy to pay.
We siliconed around the opening the wires go though and I out poison in the lower part. There is a bigger hole at the bottom which I will try plugging with steel wool. With two cats, black and bull snakes, coyotes, hawks and owls this would not be much of a problem. I keep my place nice and tidy so minimal places that would attract mice. Just venting!
