Dave,
Thank you so much. The most important, and worthy, and meaningful experience of my life is raising two phenomenal daughters. They have exceeded my expectations entirely. I miss them as we a truly empty nesters now.
I think about my dad. He passed over 25 years ago. He did his best, was there for us, and taught me a lot about work, integrity, and value systems. And he was a hell of a businessman, fisherman, and marksman. Miss him a lot.

This:
Scariest thing I - we ever did: have daughters. The shirt is very appropriate I think. From my Trumpet-hooligan ride this morning! Enjoy your day dads! No fear.

My father was not very good. He was self absorbed, physically cruel, mentally abusive. He left a trail of wreckage in his wake; including all his children; that includes me. His abuse taught us many bad lessons such as the horrid understanding that life sill simply beat the living hell out of me at random iintervals and for no reason at all. Yeah. . .
But he also imparted to me a strong work ethic that kept me going back to work despite the fact that work environments are harsh beyond belief for one who is autistic. I have never won the great game of life, but by damn I have played it and have memories to savour and tales to tell. I survived hid brutality and gained the strength to tell the entire world where to get off. Yeah. . .
Then, as he grew old he changed. By force of will he left behind all his evil. He learned how to not lie. He learned that there are other people in the world. he learned that love is better than rage. He became a nice old man that anyone would like to know. And I did know him in his old age, for a time, before he died.
It is that man, the father that died a nice old man, that I choose to recall. I cannot ever forget the man who raised me; I can replace my feelings toward him with the feelings I have toward the man who overcame. At his funeral his youngest son presided. He told that he would not give any glowing eulogy because our father had told him not to; that he had not earned and did not deserve it.
THAT is the father I choose to think of and feel for. Happy father's day dad, with love and respect and thanks that you gave me life.

My Dad (91) is a little like Archie Bunker the way he talks to my Mom but he's the smartest guy I even known, he was a rocket scientist! Gyroscope guidance systems for Apollo and other missions. shown with my brother the Dr.
