Their new scrambler is a cheaper version of the expensive NineT.

Buyers can then purchase the NineT more expensive bits and swap them - creating their own version. Individuality using factory parts to customize your bike is now a sales feature. All manufacturers should have more than one or two suspension options on each platform in my opinion.

Scramblers ... simple, tossable, and capable motorcycles.
The Ducati Scrambler has been very successful and BMW hopes to cash in too.

This might be the most interesting news (to me) to come out of BMW in a while:

BMW are on the verge of revealing a range of lower cost R nineT-based bikes, with a Scrambler version leading the way.

While two of the low-cost models are expected to arrive in late 2016, we believe that the Scrambler will arrive by the end of this year. The German firm have made no secret of their intent to keep the air-cooled boxer engine in production, claiming that they can easily meet ever-more stringent emissions regulations by keeping the state of tune relatively low.

The R nineT has been a rampant success for BMW, with 8488 being sold globally in 2014, making it the fourth most successful bike in their range behind the two iterations of R1200GS, and the class-leading R1200RT.

Well the BMW production lines are already creaking under the massive increase in demand over the last few years, and with boxer engined bikes accounting for the top four sales figures in BMW’s range, it’s the busiest of all the production lines.
