Triumph Bug Eyes Banished!
« on: June 28, 2015, 05:18:17 PM »
Motodemic now is making a relatively cheap and easy install for the Streets and Speedy's.  Previously it was super expensive and very difficult.  Did my Striple today.  Lots of guys love the bugs but I've always been a single guy and besides, the bugs remind me of a Ruckus.  Not that there's anything wrong with that per se

Small pluses for me are 1) the headlight now turns with the steering whereas before the bugs attached to a stalk that was attached to the frame 2) small weight savings but one I can feel is that the stalk and bug eyes are a bit heavier than the single light and 3) relocates dash in lower more forward spot where initial ride seems to indicate it's easier to see.

Looks better with the one headlight.

To my eye anyway.

Wow!  Big improvement. I've been looking at a lighter companion for the 1200S and the striple is in the running. This makes the decision a lot easier. Thanks, Bri

Do it!  As I've said before, this thing is like some kind of Mighty Mouse of the motorcycle world.  And Motodemic is a new company where Brad (owner) is ridiculously awesome.  I even called him a couple times WHILE I was doing the install to get some coaching.  Just fantastic support.  That even offer an LED if you want to drop a bit more change.

Sorry, but I like the bug eyes.  Always have, always will.  They make the ST3 unique among its competitors.  I used to have a Speed Triple with the bug eyes, and while my '13 has the twin non-round lights, I still wouldn't replace them with a single large one.  But I know I'm in the minority here, and each to their own.

Nice.

Now it looks like a proper factory offering rather than a post-crash, got's no deductible in da bank, spent the insurance check on a "rave", wrecking yard "custom" half-a-streetfighter, reject.

Looks good either way I guess. The bugs are a signature aspect of the Speed though. That's part of what distinguishes it. Like the big fenders on an Indian etc. Just part of what they should look like.

I like the round bug eyes, but find the new style to be hideous.

Can't argue with that and it's a solid one I waged with myself for a good while, decision then made easy prior to Motodemic's conversion - the only other one available being so expensive as to deter want; yet, MD's is just too easy and affordable for me to pass up and I personally do like the single headlight look better.

Logged about 65 miles with the new setup yesterday.  Notes taken:  Forward cluster reposition definitely more visible, front end never heavy before but definitely lighter now, and too something I totally did not expect; it's quieter.  I always thought the little wind roar I heard was the result of my shield but there it was yesterday on the highway at 85...clean quiet.  I guess the buggies further out front and dual, caught a small bit more wind.

Gratuitous shot from yesterday's ride.

I'm 100% fine with the bug eyes on mine.  Now a windscreen on a hot rod like a S3, well, that another story altogether......

Mr. Miyagi say, Clip-On/Clip-Off very effective.  Makes the highway runs to the curves as enjoyable as the curves.

:1:   Might be "ugly" in a sense but that's part of what makes it a Speed Twin.   If I had one, I think I'd leave it alone and have twice as much light.

Being a rat owner I like the "wrecking yard custom" look  :D

And, if my charging system would support it I'd have dual headlights on mine.  Until then I will have to be satisfied with my 'flashlight' driving lights :D

Me too but I'm biased  :afro:
I've loved my little Striple for all the right reasons since purchasing a year or so ago.  It is hands down the most amazing all around little machine I've ever owned; however, I've never ever never warmed much to its looks, due mainly to those headlights and some of the sharper angles.  So odd and nice to now actually find myself admiring the bike for its looks as well.  Who knows, maybe I'll even grab one of these fairings now and start work on this cafe version  :thumb:
