Cross-Country Trip on a Breva 1100

Returned Friday night from a 3 week,  5116 mile ride on my '06 Breva 1100.  Toured the Colorado Rockies; Gunnison, Ouray, Mesa Verde, Durango.  Also visited Monument Valley, Canyon Lands NP, Arches NP and was delighted to find the Colorado River Canyon road on Utah 128. My friend Tim, on a '08 Kawasaki Versys, and I departed and returned to Howard County, just SW of Baltimore, MD.

This isn't a ride report, but I did want it to be known that the bike performed like a champ.  It started and ran w/o a hiccup and did everything I wanted it to do. It was also a lot of fun to ride, whether in the mountain twisties or piling up the miles on I-70. I do admit to a bit of angst out in the hinterlands knowing that technical help was far away. So I pushed all the problems that I read about here, out of my mind. It burned about 4 ozs of oil and I had to replace the low beam headlight bulb, which was found easily. 5 years ago I rode the Breva out to Priest Lake, ID and Crater Lake, OR and likewise the bike ran beautifully.  After 8 years, 2 cross-country trips, and 39,000 miles, I think the Breva is a keeper!  Oh yeah, my friend's Kawawaki ran great too.

Glad you had a good trouble free trip. A friend rode his B1100 from north Alabama to the national recently without nary a hiccup.

Your report is delightful!  As a big block CARC rider, I find these bikes perfect for the kind of ride you described.  I took my 1200 Sport on a similar ride in 2011  ..... from NE Ohio to Montana and back, and it was a perfect machine for that road trip.

Your mention of UT 128 brought back some pleasant memories, too.  I found it by accident.  Went for a ride out of Moab before my riding buddies got up, and was astounded by the beauty of the red rock that ran so high above the valley floor.  On subsequent rides, I always peel off I-70 at the first Cisco exit as I head west, and ride into Moab on that beautiful road.  It is unfortunate that the Dewey Bridge burned down ..... hopefully, a historical society will be able to bring it back to life.

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful story about your 5k+ Breva ride.

Have made the round trip from Seattle to Arkansas 3 1/2 times so far on a 1200 Sport. Never any trouble. Great fuel mileage. Trouble free. Gawd, I sound like a Honda advertisment.

Curious if you have the standard windshield. I have a 07 Breva 11 and removed the shield because of wind turbulence at my head. Tried adjusting but no success.

The standard screen is stored away some where.  I quickly replaced it with a 600 mm screen from Eagle Screen: http://www.eaglescreens.com.au/.  It fit on the MG mounts and I got prompt service.  I'm 6'2" and the screen has met my needs.

Note:  5 years ago I did not see one MG on the road during my cc trip.  This year I saw an aztec gold Stelvio w/LA plates in Gunnison and a white Norge in Ouray. Lots of HD's, Beemers, a fair number of ST 11 and 1300's and V-Stroms.  I was pleased to see so many bikes on the road.
