  ...No title is a turn off ...It pays to get the title before selling unless the price is very attractive.

If you "want it gone", as stated, that's the best way to get the most people interested.   Many people who have bought bikes on eBay (like me) don't bid on "reserve" auctions, because we're not interested in the seller's opinion of what it's worth, we want to buy it at the market price.   If the seller isn't interested in selling at the market price, I'm not interested in bidding.

All that being said, I'm glad it's been pointed out here.   This is a good place for a project bike to be advertised, because someone who doesn't know much about Guzzis is unlikely to be interested at any price ....

I'm sure you're right in your state Tom,  but here in NC, once it's running you can get a title by filling out some forms, getting an inspection, and buying a title bond for $100.  As long as the inspection doesn't turn up any evidence of it being stolen, you can immediately get the registration card and license plate.  The new title comes in a few weeks.  Checking the VIN before closing the deal is always a good idea, of course.

Not that having a title wouldn't make it more desirable to me.

Still a parts bike till proven otherwise.  The owner passed away.  Sold by the executor of his estate.  You'd need a bill of sale from the last legal owner and the will showing the legal right for that person to dispose of the bike.  Current owner has possession but not the legal right to sell the bike.  He can sell the parts bike but not with a title.  It was never transferred to his name.  Others will say to use a title service.  Gamble with your money if you that's what you want.  I'd buy it as a parts bike but at an appropriate price.

While this may be okay in NC.  Not with most of the states west of the MS river.  The surety bond on a title for an old vehicle might work only on intra-state vehicles highly unlikely for interstate sales.  All the states are doing the uniform titling on motor vehicles.  In state titling is different.

Generically speaking, if it's a no-hassle, no-brainer thing to straighten out the title, then why doesn't the seller do that?  I see ad after ad saying the paperwork isn't inn order, but the BUYER should have no problem [proving the providence and legality of the PREVIOUS owner's purchase] after the sale.  I just want to buy a bike -- not the grief, paperwork, chasing down the chain of ownership and surety bonds.  I don't mess with that situation.  It reeks on too many levels.

Speaking from experience, I probably wouldn't bother saying I had a bill of sale.  I'd just go through the procedure as if a neighbor had it in a barn for 40 years, gave it to me, and moved to Tahiti, or something similar.  Anyway, my point was only that whether or not it's just a parts bike depends on the state the buyer lives in.

I've sold 7 vehicles/bikes on Ebay. For the  causual seller the risk is too great just to throw it out there for bidders. There's always the chance of just a few low bids despite what similar bikes brought in ....
 I will buy a vehicle 1972 or older with no paper work because of NY state not issuing titles for older stuff so it a simple form costing nothing but license plate fees. At the same I won't pay going rate for a no paperwork vehicle...

That's the bottom line.  Like other new forum members.  No intro.  No history on the forum.  No one knows him.  Post to sell "his" bike then runs.

I keep hearing that .... but I never see it happen.   When was the last time someone on this list was hurrah-ing about getting a nice original Loopframe in great condition for $2500 because no one else bid on it but him?

But do it in what ever way makes you feel the less risk.   I'd rather have more bidders; they get into a frenzy when you start something at $.99 and no reserve ....
