2013 V7 single throttle body 750 in to a v65tt with carbs
« on: December 28, 2015, 03:16:37 AM »
So I have a lovely pair of v65tt ( metalic grey 1984 and a white 1988) , both need thrust bearings and probably a crank polish and new shells, bit are getting hard to find for older small block bottom ends. Both gearbox's are getting old and occasionally stick in the lower gears

I was offered a 2013 V7 Stone single throttle body engine and 5 speed box from a damaged v7 with 600miles on the clock by a friend and a plan to fit the complete 2013 engine and box to my grey TT was hatched  :bike-037:

I read the 4v conversion thread over at guzzitech with interest and was interested to read that the v7 injector manifolds fit the lario heads as do the v7 exhausts . I cannot see a reason why the v65  carb manifolds and exhausts would not fit the v7 heads?

Having looked a the v7 and v65tt engine/boxes side by side the gearboxes are externally identical (both have the later 12 spline output shafts) and the bottom ends of the engine are identical so should have no problem putting the v7 engine and box in to my tt.  To get things running i think i need :-

2013 starter motor

NGK VD05EM spark plug caps

Ducati regulator

Alternator mounted electronic ignition like Electronic Sachse ( unless I can use my existing cam shaft )

--------------

Only problem I can no see no solution to is the cam shaft drive rev counter / tacho and cam mounted dyna s my TT has. Ideally I would like to use my v65TT cam shaft and front cover , this would give me the tacho drive and i could use my existing dyna s ignition

that sounds like a fun project , go for it!
the camshaft doesnt have the worm drive for the tacho...
any possibility to find a electronic tacho?
i would keep the original gearbox, the short gearing fits the TT just fine.

My 84 TT has monza road gears to speed things up on the road !

The 88 has the original low ratio wheely gears

Any ideas if the older cam would fit the new engine ?

Yeah, the old cam will fit. I put one in the Aero Lario. It's detailed in the Aero engine rescue thread.

Thats interesting news Chuck!

If I put my TT cam into the new engine and swapped the front cover over i could keep my dyna s and lemans 1 tacho :-)

my only worry is the lifters dropping into the block.  I wonder if i loosened the valves so there was no pressure on the push rods i could swap the cams with the engine upside down....

To hold the lifters in place, take out the rocker pin & rockers, slide 4 magnets on the expandable holders down push rod holes & hold them in place w/rubber bands.

Mans a genius :-)  Nice one Steve

Interestingly I have just checked the part numbers of the lifters and the latest V7II has the same lifters an and mk1 V35 .  So my v65 cam should fit nicely!

That's just how I do it, except on a Hydro motor kit u use a tool to go through the cam hole in front of block.

I'd love to go single unit for my Baby Breva's induction. I wonder how long before these later V-7s start getting parted.

If you've got a whole late model bike why not just swap out the loom, add the ECU, piss off all the tired old shite and do the job properly?

Nicely put ;-)  I have only got the engine , box , ducati alternator and reg.  Wanted to keep my rebuilt carbs and ideally get my nos lm1 tach and dyna s working :-)

Only niggle i need to check is if i can use my Valeo starter on the new engine
