Fuel tank mounting
« on: July 17, 2015, 01:55:02 AM »
Okay team might need some help sanity checking. I am putting my 1000SP back together.  The previous owner was a little rough mechanically and there has been a lot of sorting to do. I mounted the gas tank and the seat gap was off, seat too high or tank too low. It looks like I am missing some rubber spacers according to the parts book.  I am also missing the rear tank strap. Does anyone know where that strap hooks on the frame?? Also trying to sort out the battery and such. The one that came with it is too tall and all the mounting stuff is long gone too along with the room tray.  Lots of little things to do when there have been bad hands working on it for almost 40 years

For tank strap , there is a hook on the underside of the frame crossmember right below bottom of back of tank.
MG Cycle has most all the rubber parts.

Search "Tank rubber" on MG Cycle...

Do you have the three rubber mounts?  One up front, and two in the rear?  These will position the tank higher.

I only have a rubber mount on the front of the tank. I need to order the rear rubber pieces. The way the tok on the tank goes I thought the tab had to be down low there but didn't see it. Maybe the garage needs better lighting.

Thanks for the help everyone
