At Loring Maine on the 1-1/2 mile LSR track my bike and rider off the trailer set a new national record of 128.02 MPH . Officially the quickest bike of it's class in the country. Raised the old record by 4 MPH...We made three very consistent runs and the last one upped out record slightly to 128.20. Our one mile speeds were 126 MPH. The bike power has run up against air drag and won't go any faster no matter what gearing....
Me the "crew chief" giving the stink eye to our competition.

So, do you need to change this:

"Current ECTA 650 M/P Triumph naked frame record holder 125.00 MPH".

Or is that a different thing altogether?

Congratulations!  Funny, I hadn't seen this thread, but posted in your "Going Racing" thread a little while ago:

Jim, yeah, me in the hat. We didn't know that photo was taken until seeing it on a bike forum yesterday.

I have this  sound video of the bike setting a new class record at the Ohio mile LSR track last year. The Triumph engine is not a radial build and starts on one kick and idles nicely at 900 rpm. Listen close and you can hear the shift into high (four speed) that occurs at about 105 MPH in 13 seconds without a brutal drag strip start or fast shifting.

It sounds like it's not straining at all.  What's the max RPM?

Very impressive Rough. 128! I am not sure my LeMans has gone that fast, close maybe. Have you taken the bike to Leicester (local 1/4 mile drag strip) yet?

It sounds like it's not straining at all.  What's the max RPM?

The rider may wing it up to near 7700 rpm in third gear  but  maximum speed in high gear is only 7100 rpm. Other guys are turning higher rpm's but can't catch us. Triumphs are crankshaft breakers, higher rpm greatly increases the risk...So I built the engine to deliver power at a lower rpm..

Sounds like a strategy that's paying off.  The way it sounded, it'll race for many years.

My first impression of LSR was that I wouldn't want to get involved.  Going 200 mph is not something I'm interested in.  But when you can enter a class that lets you have fun competing with much more sane speeds, it starts to sound like fun.  Maybe I'll put a fairing on my DT100 and show up.

Jim,you should try it, there's literally a class for any bike or car/truck.The closest track to you is in Ohio... Is it fun? You bet it is ...especially the winning part. There are class rules and safety requirements of course. You have to see it to believe fully dressed Harley baggers hitting 130 MPH...Street driven crotch rockets at over 200 MPH or the  lowered 70 Caddy with stock sheet metal knocking on 190 MPH..No drag strip starts but some bikes light up the rear tire when they get on the throttle from a roll..
I'm in a class with other pushrod 40 inch  engines, mostly Brit Bikes and it's interesting to how much tuning has to be done to get one near 120 MPH. On a naked frame limited power bike like mine the rider is 60 percent of the speed. We have raced the bike four times and set a new record each time. My rider friend is ultra competitive and I believe he adds speed by sheer determination..At nearly 130 MPH on the 320 pound Triumph he sits on the metal tail piece to get his body in the proper position. Oh...the the only brake is a rear that barely stops it from 15 MPH.

It looks like there's a 1 mile LSR event at Laurinburg-Maxton airfield, just outside Maxton, North Carolina.

Hmmm, the ECTA moved it's operation from NC to Ohio about 4 years ago...

Hell, different helmet, no car or quad and it could be Peter Fonda taking in 60's or 70's race.

Great photo!

Pete

I've had my 1998 V11 EV California up to 200kph, or 125 mph. But it is 1100cc.

And, Congratulations on the LSR victory! Awesome achievement!!!
