Centauro Stand Bracket + Pics
« on: July 05, 2015, 08:34:16 AM »
Yesterday I was moving my bike and as I turned to walk away I heard a noise only to see my Centy in the process of laying itself down  Luckily I managed to stop it from doing itself any harm. The bracket for the stand tore itself in two. I'll post photos later today, I was too disgusted to bother when it happened.
Anyway, does anyone have one of these laying around or know of anyone wrecking a spine frame bike.
It is the bracket that bolts to the timing chest and holds the side/kick stand.

Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up; think I'll check mine out tonight. Would be great if you could post pics of the failure.

Having a hard time believing that forging broke in half. Was the smaller (M5) screw left out? That screw came loose on my LeMans and I caught it as the bigger screw was wearing out its tapped hole.

I heard of them breaking before. Mine lives now 13 years, solely on the big bolt. Because the V pan I have that doesn't have a mounting point for it.

Hi All,

After some research I learnt this was a known issue with the V10 models due to the casting and then machining process. The V11 unit wasn't prone to these failures and was offered as a free replacement at some stage due to the possible injuries. I was lucky as I had turned to walk away and heard it and it propped up as the stand slipped off the concrete pad and on to the grass. I was able to lower softly to the ground.

I have managed to source a center stand and several used brackets.

FWIW, I put a block, about 1 1/4" thick, under my sidestand figuring more vertical would put less stress on it.

Thanks for the pictures. Can you tell me more about fitting a center stand on the V10?

Hi CT,

I'll post pics when I carry out the installation which, if all goes to plan, will be this weekend.
I believe it is a TLM unit from the Netherlands.
Here is a link to one installed in the UK. http://www.centauro-owners.com/gallery.html
About two thirds down the page a yellow beast.

Regards,

Adam

Any update on the center stand installation? Seems like they're very rare to find; where did you get yours?

thanks for this, i may try a small block under mine because the 2x6 sits it a little too upright. Also plan on inspecting it since i really don't need it going over in the garage. I managed to catch my trident when the side stand broke off of that old brit bike. Someday i'll get that welded back on.

I got it from the owner of the very famous caf'd Centauro http://thebikeshed.cc/2013/02/04/arnies-guzzi/

It fits perfectly and I am very satisfied. These are the only pics I had so far.
