2 nights only...the best Western ever tonight and tomorrow night!

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly - playing at River Oaks Theater - Midnight Showing!!!

I have probably seen this movie at least 100 times along with all of the rest of Clint's Westerns...never goes out of style!

Tonight...have to see it on the Big screen (well, bigger than the Big Screen at home at least!)

A movie about the American West , filmed in Spain , with an Italian director , largely IMS, financed and filmed by Brits . Still , great movie  :thumb:

With one of the best musical scores as well by Morricone!

I would have to say in order of my favorite Clint Westerns;

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Pale Rider
High Plains Drifter
For a Few Dollars More/A Fistful of Dollars
Hang em High
Unforgiven

But they are all classics!

Clint made the most realistic Westerns , all of his characters were antiheroes , OK Josie had a good reason . The Unforgiven was the most realistic , drunks shooting at other drunks , and maybe the best dialogue ever in a Western .

Funny how the rhythm of words makes the original title ("The Good, The Ugly, and the Bad") sound clumsy when translated directly. I guess the rule for titles is X syllables + X syllables + X+1 syllables.

Sorry, it's been long week...

Very keen observation...the whole dubbing process from the original Italian for many of the actors into English was a fun challenge as well.

I've always been a big fan myself.   Some of the dubbing, though, is really bad, as they invent English dialogue to match the Italian lip movement, and it doesn't always work so well, the best example being the Union infantry captain at the bridge ....

But we overlook all that ... like Blondie "recognizing" the sound of Tuco's pistol when he's never heard the pistol that Tuco is shooting, and the use of det cord and high explosive in the 1860s, because it really is an epic movie, and I learned to enjoy it when I was still a kid.   Way ahead of its time!

Absolutely Lannis!

Or when the band leader tells the prison band to play with "more feeling" during the beating of Tuco! That particular translation had stumped the dubber for a while to match the lip movement.

Every pistol has its own sound!  Classic!

I liked the Blondie character since I was a kid, even named my Labrador "Rubio" in his honor!

But the best one is when Tuco is taking a bath and the guy storms in:  When you have to shoot...shoot, don't talk!

Our family uses dialogue from TGTBATU all the time.   At a big family meal, one of us will generally start out with "Like a little music with your meal?" and finish with "Ah, my belly is full .... " and do the whole script.     Or when we're out shooting, with an array of pistols lined up on the bench, SOMEONE will have to growl "Revolvers!".    And we'll try to work in a dry, expressionless "It's for you." if we hand a note to someone - what comes before is implied and understood!

Brilliant!  It's for you...ha ha!  One of the best lines of the movie!

Maybe at the next rally we should do a whole campfire of Clint 1 liners and dialogue!  That would be fun!

Plenty of choices from the Dirty Harry series as well!  :)
