The Balvenie...vs Old Pulteney

All,

Better Guzzi ride on a Sunday, but on to Scotch comparisons.  In this case  The Balvenie 12 year,  versus Old Pulteney.  Been drinking the salty, complex Pulteney for a couple years.  Couldn't find it, so bought the Bal.  Big difference.  Ball has a sweet, sherry, fairly simple style.  It is clean and excellent, but for my money the salty-sea Pulteney stands heads and shoulders higher.

Never been a fan of the peaty/smokey single malt styles. 

What is your favorite single malt scotch?  Why is that?  Let's exclude the really expensive, old stuff.

Taking Monday off work as a vacation day as to not let Flubdub energy just take my earned vacation.  Supervising house repairs, Alzheimer's clinic and probably some laundry, and the V7R will get a bath.  She got very dirty on Saturday when we were drowned.  Raining like crazy now, back to normal pop up Gulf of Mexico (yes she is mother ocean) storms.

Sadly, on the subject of alcohol generally, I have been forced to abstain totally for more than a year. Bizarrely, my digestive system has a much-reduced capacity now and I have chosen to consume food in order to preserve my life, alcohol having no nutritional value
There was a time this year when steak would give me stomach pain for instance, so it wasn't just grog that banned from my diet and to prove it, my belt is now at least 2" too long

But all this need not stop you blokes. I hereby appoint you duly authorised to taste anything you like and I will do my best to catch up..............one day

Glenmorangie, and Lagavulin for Islays.
I like other Islays also, but not the Bowmore.
Glenlivet, Laphroig, Bruichladdich, Ardbeg come to mind.
Yeah, I'm an Islay guy, but love that Glenmorangie.

Man, this is a tough crowd! I drank heavily for decades and could never "acquire" a taste for scotch.  Nor could I hold my little finger out away from the glass when I was drinking it.

I'm such a wimp I can't and wont eat steel cut oats. But I got a vasectomy, went out and kick started my old Harley and rode 30 miles of rough road to the trailer.

Glenlivet was my favorite.  For a more expensive one I had some Johnny Walker Blue that was great.  Couldn't afford it tho  :)

One evening I decided to test my palate.  Tried 7 different scotches in a blind taste test (my wife and her sister set it up).  Found out that it was hard to tell the difference between the good ones.  But, Dewars, Cutty and Chivas were at the bottom (yes, JW Red was better).

But, I haven't had any scotch in several years so it's a moot point.  Every now and then some German wine finds it's way to my glass.

Yes it did. Mary and I pounded about half of it.  both felt fine in the morning.  I was out of room on the Lario, so Andy put it in his saddle bag to bring it back. Once home, Dorcia finished it off.  Not in one sitting, though..

Macallan 12, Lagavulin 16, Glenmorangie 12 lasanta in that order. Like the Macallan the best cause it is so, so smooth, goes down so easy.


Now I'm gonna have to go drink some.
