Too Smokey to ride
« on: August 25, 2015, 04:33:11 PM »
Hope none of you folks are planning a ride down U.S. 12 or anywhere else in much of the Pacific Northwest. Thunderstorms 10 or so days ago have left so much smoke in the air, I'm keeping the B1100 in the shop.
We have fires all around us and visibility is about a half-mile most of the time. Some 50 homes were lost in the Orofino/Kamiah area and there are numerous evacuation orders in place around us in the mountainous regions.
Fires aren't growing much right now, but the heavy smoke that covers the area from Boise to Canada isn't going away until we get a couple days of rain or the snow hits.
Can't imagine riding far in it. I'm staying out of it but still have a sore throat and gummy eyes.

I went through a controlled burn in a National Forest. Eerie. Surreal. Animals everywhere. Orange boron brown thick smoke and a bloody sun at high noon. And the fragrances. Not so nice when your existence is threatened. Take care my friend.

I was in the Puget Sound area over the weekend.  The smoke was worse day by day.  Sunday it was a visible and palatable fog on the water and roads alike.  The smell was trees burning.  My flight left at about dusk.  The sunset and the moon were red even at 30,000', and at that elevation we were not above the smoke layer.  I could see three fires burning from my window.  It was the smokiest I've ever seen it in the Seattle area.
