Nice Buldge!!!

Noticed this after we had some hot weather.  Thought it might have been from pressure build up in the tank so I opened the tank and got just a little pressure relief.  Called the local dealer, Newport Italian and talked to Rey.  He had me take a few photos and by the next day got approval from Piaggio to replace the tank.  5 to 7 weeks before the new tank arrives, as long as I can ride it's no biggie.  This is on a 2014 Norge.  Anyone know if they've done anything to prevent this from happening again?

Whoa, I have a 2014 Norge too, no bulge yet on mine, but it just has 950 miles on it. Where are you located, could be from alcohol content in the fuel?

Had similar symptoms on a 2008 1200 Sport.  Amazingly, the bulges and bumps along both sides of the fuel tank began vanishing (for the most part) once I converted the fuel tank venting system from the USA-only style to the rest-of-the-world style.  Commonly known as a canisterectomy on Guzzi websites.

Before the new tank is installed, I would have your dealer make certain that the USA venting system is working, ie, no crimped vent hoses, vent valve with too high relief pressure, etc, or you may be in for the same experience with the new tank.

Have had my own ethanol distortions, and know of others, but have not seen anything like that!

Clearly a defect.  Hope the new tank gets delivered soon.   

Perhaps alcohol based additives have contributed to the bulge over my belt?

Like Bob said, check the tip over valve, check valve, and all the tubing for the charcoal canister.  Also, ensure the canister itself is working correctly.  The tank should not have any pressure built up when sitting in the sun.

Or, do the permanent fix which is to vent the tank directly to atmosphere.  By removing the canister, you'll gain enough room under the rear seat to hold a 12V pump and tire patch kit.

I'm in southern California, not sure we have alcohol or ethanol in our gas.

Yes, I had planned on having them check things over to hopefully prevent it from happening again.  I had planned on doing a canisterectomy, but haven't had time to take the tank off and get to it.

Was also worried about voiding any warranty.
