Power delivery on 2012 Griso 8v se
« on: August 27, 2015, 01:08:11 PM »
I've only had my GRiSO for a week or two and so far only in the city. I'm noticing that between 2-4K rpm the power delivery is a bit inconsistent especially in 1st and 2nd gear. , almost hesitant. At 4k it smooths out and suddenly turns into a rocket.

First time I've been on a GRiSO so this may be just how she runs. Wondering about my mapping... Any similar experiences? Comments?
Thanks guys/gals

First order, make sure she is in a good state of tune (TPS set, valves, etc.). My 2012 seemed to work just fine but with remapping she'll pull from the basement, unlike the stock map.

But a map won't help much until you make sure the rest of the motor is up to snuff.

I also think the Griso is a much better open road bike than a town bike. In town my CB1100 and the 650L are much better choices.

Answered on the Ghetto. I'll reproduce here, however.

That is the classic sign of the ECU's marvelous trimming ability.  Basically, below 4000 it gets trimmed to somewhere near the stoichometric point (which is not where the 8V runs stellar). Unfortunately it's doesn't do a very good in your case, as stop start riding like in a city does not allow for a steady throttle for a long period, so you get an uneven trim effect.

You can eliminate it immediately by pulling the main fuses for 30 seconds. That will reset the trims. However, after a couple of hundred km, it will return to its hunting ways. The only long term solution is to remap.

Thanks Beetle; I did not experience that on my bike, probably because I did the open road with a "steady" throttle more than town riding.

Yes, this is common for folks who do a lot city riding. Chaps like yourself who spend a lot of time on the open road usually don't experience it, or if they do, it's to a lesser extent.

I should add, with your mature map of the 8V Griso, the engine pulls from the basement making city riding much easier. Still not as nice as my CB1100 (that has more to do with tire profiles and the inline four's power delivery verses the big v twin); but the CB can't hold a candle the Griso on the road. :)

But it puts a grin on my face being able to just pull away from the curb or light with light applications of power and rpm's vs. the old days. Much more civilized while retaining the inner hooligan in the higher rpm range.
