Installing fork seals on Eldorado, Grrr...
« on: September 02, 2015, 06:20:01 PM »
I'm installing new forks in my '73 Eldorado, the old ones got bent in a recent fight with gravity.

Everything is going smoothly, except seating the fork seals. I've never run across this recessed design, and I'm messing up the lip on these trying to seat them. I got one, but it's not pretty. The second one is starting to look worse than the one I took out!

I bet there's a $50 tool I need, but anybody a go-around?

I'm quitting for the day before I ruin something!      :embarrassed: :undecided:

I don't use any special tool. Washer the same outer diameter as the seal and a 36 mm socket. The washer goes up against the seal, the socket pushes on the washer, pressed into place with either the press or my big bench vise.
