As I noted in a post earlier this week I am changing things around in the garage in preparation for downsizing to just a couple of motorcycles.  I will keep a couple of projects around, gotta have something to work on.

That's going to be tough.   As I imagine (here entering my 7th decade and thinking about what is smart and what is not to have in my shop) all the possible scenarios of bikes to have, even if I could snap my fingers and change all the bikes I have to something else, my minimum is going to be three, and possibly 4, although that would be somewhat of a luxury .....

To have a two-up touring bike, two "brand rally" bikes, a "personal" bike, an interesting "bimbling" bike, it's hard to combine them into a minimum number less than 4 .....

I have tried to think why I need to keep gathering motorcycles and cannot come up wit a reason why I cannot downsize.  Everyone is different, thanks goodness...  I really believe that I have turned the corner on "Wanting" vs "Needing" several motorcycles to register and insure each year.

Time may prove me wrong but I do not think so.

Look for the '97 Sporti for sale one of these days also.

We have the MGB and '69 VeeDub also so car interests keep us busy as well as travel and of course family.

I printed a copy of the picture of the garage door and showed it to my windshield.

Little tears leaked out of the corners of the windshield. Sleeping under a carport in San Diego is so hard...The grueling 20 mile commutes in the hot, hot sun...

In the past two years I unloaded 2 snowmobiles, a four wheeler, goldwing, Quota, snowmobile trailer, camper, garden tractor and other "smalls." I now have my origianl Jackal and a Honda NC700X. There are times I miss one of the other toys but it is fleeting at best. I am considering a V7, but that will be my limit. the space and peace of mind gained by downsizing was the correct choice for me. Much happier now!

I'm in the same boat.  Special bikes for special riding/clubs.  Which "kid" do you put up for adoption?

It's tough.   And it's NOT because the club "demands" that you ride the club brand to rallies and such.   With the exception of the annual worldwide BSA International Rally (which is a true "club" rally and the rules encourage you to ride a BSA to the rally and only BSAs are allowed on the rideouts and lineups, which I support), I can ride any bike I want to any rally, Guzzi, BSA, Norton, etc.

Trouble is, I really like to be a supporter of the club and really try to "set an example" for the other members ... it's just something I like to do but it "costs" me extra bikes, not to mention keeping a couple of BSAs around for overseas visitors to ride when they're here.     

But it IS hard to keep batteries and aired-up tires and fresh gas and oil in six or seven bikes, and at some point I have to ask "Am I really getting what I want out of these bikes?"   

Talk about your basic "First World" problem!

I guess but it's not about clubs and others, it's about me, what I like to ride, how often, where and all that.  Yes there would be times that I'd miss a certain pony in the stable but that would be a fleeting feeling.

Right, to me it is not that the tasks of keeping the motorcycle maintenance up is that difficult, more to do with simplifying my life.

My Wife, who has always been a huge supporter of my habit continually asks me if I am certain that I want these motorcycles to leave.  She is concerned that I will "want" another and then another at some time.

At this time I just do not think so...

We'll see...

Very much good luck.  I too downsized in my own minor way recently, going from 3 bikes to two.  The result has been nothing but completely positive thus far.  Traded in my Cali Stone for a new V7 Stone and it proving my favorite motorcycle of them all.  Even with new bike, my insurance savings are still on the positive side from selling the very great Street Triple.  The garage itself just feels better in there with less bikes whereas before just the one more bike made it feel too crowded for me.  I love options to choose from when going on a ride but for now the 2 I have are different enough and I'm enjoying less maintenance, insurance costs, more garage space, and the greatest motorcycle I've ever owned or driven.
