Pulled heads for work, should I pull cylinders too?

I pulled the heads off my G5 to fix some stripped valve cover holes and a stripped manifold hole. The bike has I believe 30k miles. Should I pull the cylinders and replace the rings?

How was the compression before pulling the heads? Burning oil?

Wasn't burning oil, never checked the compression. Guess I should have if I thought about it. Ran pretty well

I just did the heads on my SP III and for the heck of it pulled the jugs. The bike was running fine but oil was being burnt and it was clearly the guides. What I found made me actually laugh.
When I pulled the rings to gap check them they were 1.5mm, every single on of them.

I am 500km into the break in and it is going great.
About 250kms I re-torqued heads (about a quarter of a turn 🤔) and adjusted clearances after it began getting a vibe at around 5000 rpm/125kph and the left carb choke decided to stick open (in this case they were both related and in-related).
It's beginning to vibe a bit again but the carbs are in sync so need to check the valve clearances again.

I think it's worth the effort.

What's the cross hatch look like? Still good? How about ring end gap? You can probably eyeball the top ring at TDC. I, personally, would have done a leak down before pulling the heads.. on the assumption if you look for trouble on an old machine, you will find it.

The G5 has iron liners and I'd be surprised if there are any hone marks left. Hone it and put rings in it. It's 30 years old.

If I pull heads on a Guzzi, I always pull the cylinders too. Chances are good that you've compromised the base gasket and just "buttoning it back up" will result in an oil leak.

Might as well since you opened the top end.  That is unless you don't mind doing it again.
