95 California Tachometers
« on: November 19, 2015, 07:13:32 AM »
Is the Tacho for the Injected bike actually different to the one for the Carb bike?

The carb bike is 29 76 72 50 while the injected bike is 29 76 72 50.

However, looking at the wiring diagram for the 2 bikes plus the fact that they appear to use the same Digiplex 500A ECU there doesn't appear to be any difference

Cheers

Can't imagine why they would be different. Same part number..

They are different. A carbed bike from 1994 to 97 use the Digiplex ignition with a single flywheel sensor. A fuel injected bike used the P8 ECU with the flywheel sensor AND the phase sensor on the cam.
The Digiplex fires every rotation. The ECU fires every other rotation.

What's up with the same part number, then? <scratching head>

I think that was a typo, but then I don't have the parts book here.

The carb models part number is 29 76 72 40 and for the injected versions 29 76 72 50.

They look the same, but read half or twice actual revs/min for the reason Wayne explained above.

whoops - my bad  :embarrassed:

Cheers Chuck - that makes sense

I believe you can "make" a carb bike tacho work on an injected bike (a couple of diodes and triggering the tacho from both coils) but not the other way round

Its a shame as I've found a replacement injected bike tacho at a good price that I hoped I could make work.

So up on the ramp its going to see if the existing one is fixable and/or keep my eyes peeled for a carby one

Thanks all
